Thankfully, stabby stabby made a quite insightful video about the backstab mechanics not too long ago.

Except for a rare occasion, there is no such thing as “facestab”. The mechanics are wonky and seem wrong at times due to lag compensation, but they work.

The mechanics are not intuitive. There are many ways in which they could be improved. But they work the way they were designed.

So no, they are not broken.

The problem is that in theory both enemy position AND orientation should be lag compensated meaning the server should perform the attack as it shows on your screen (with some minor inaccuracies).

What stabby’s video shows should happen when lag compensation is disabled, not when it’s enabled. I doubt that this is intentional from Valve’s side.

You are making fair points.
