An FOV question

Oh look, it’s this argument again.
Stop blindly going for numbers please, if you’re not using any 4:3 resolution, your TF2 already has MORE than 90 FOV. It is because TF2’s FOV is dependant on your aspect ratio, and that is exactly why changing your resolution to something weird will release in having more FOV. (Same with QL btw)

afaik changing your resolution doesnt do this anymore. valve broke that several months ago.

Didn’t think about it too much, this makes sense. Mad stopped. Although a beast PC and 3 screen display would soon sort that out.
with a three screen setup a la eyefinity, you already get a huge fov without using any shady plugins.

So much rage over personal preference. I still know some russian players who play with 75 fov cause it’s easier to aim with as targets appear to be bigger. I for example would never play with 120 fov. 105 is optimal for me in QL and TF2
(sv_cheats 1 fun with teammates). 99% of the playerbase doesn’t know how to set up hud crosshairs that blink on damage either, should we ban those too?
“Russian players” LoL
I don’t care so much about wider angle, I just prefer my weapon viewmodel being smaller, I’ve just noticed it’s stopped working in the last week or so.
Isn’t the viewmodel fov in the options? In work, can’t check.
So if i’m using a 1440 x 900 monitor, (which is 16:10 I fink), what would my resolution be? Am I a dirty hacker without even knowing about it….hypocrisy…I am your slave :D

No
just no.
Ok just a little more than no: default cvar will lock horizontal fov at any aspect ratio wider than 1.85:1 (it will start to decrease vertical fov to compensate) which is wider than 16:9 so widescreen users definitely do benefit even on pub servers with vanilla settings blablabla
Jegus, Monkey, I’m lacking words to describe my irritation over your inability to remain silent and not stir shit up without a legitimate reason.

I don’t think so, Spike :)

Aye, obviously that has to work, but:

this stopped working when valve locked the max fov.
Unless you meant monitor resolution and not so much the size of the tf2 window, in which case never mind me.

If you use 1440 x 900, then your resolution is 1440 x 900.
(horizontal fov is around ~100, assuming you use fov_desired 90)

fov_desired changes horizontal fov but the game ensures constant vertical fov at different aspec ratios so first we determine our vertical fov at 4:3
verticalFov = 2 * atan( tan( 90/2 ) * 3/4 )
verticalFov =~ 73.74 degresshorizontalFov = 2 * atan( tan( verticalFov/2 ) * aspectRatio )
horizontalFov @ 5:4 =~ 86.3 degrees
horizontalFov @ 4:3 = 90 degrees
horizontalFov @ 16:10 =~ 100.39 degress
horizontalFov @ 16:9 =~ 106.26 degressReal math is even more fun.
