Shitty Rates?

Okay, so I’ve noticed quite a bit over the past few weeks that my rates or my net is fucked in terms of any sort of hitscan.

When I snipe or play scout or use sg, when I aim at the player it seems to miss quite a lot, and when I shoot and I know it’s a clear miss, it hits. It doesn’t seem to be decided by servers and players etc. Because it happens in pubs and shit.

What is the best way to adjust rates and interp etc? What values should I put in, I don’t want to just punch in some random numbers.

Not sure how accurate what I’m saying is, but it’s seemed to work for me. As chris’ configs say, cl_interp 0; cl_interp_ratio 1 should work perfect if you have no choke or loss, low ping and your interp on the netgraph isn’t flashing yellow. 0.033 is the safe value on cl_updaterate 66 if you are I believe. If you’re getting a lot of choke/loss, just use chris’ bad net settings with cl_interp 0;cl_updaterate 40;cl_interp_ratio 2 (gives interp of 0.05). I play on american servers frequently and those settings work well for me. When it’s really bad though, I use cl_interp 0.1 but you’ll find rockets hitting you a lot sooner from when you first see them being fired.
I believe anakin said rate is just to do with your internet speed so for most people, they can just set it on max (something around 100000 I think it was) but it doesn’t have that great an affect as far as I know.
cl_cmdrate should always be 66. You can lower cl_updaterate if you’re getting a lot of choke but the minimum is 40 on the etf2l config.
Anyone feel free to correct me.

cl_interp 0

what about that difference in interp between projectile and hitscan? i still use 0.016 for rocket launcher and 0.024 for shotgun.

I like to get mad and blame missing on rates too.

I’m guessing 0.024 is just a randomly chosen number? Like I said, if you’re having a (close to) perfect connection (low ping, no loss/choke, no yellow interp on net graph), then cl_interp 0;cl_interp_ratio 1 should work fine (that’ll set it to 0.015 on cl_updaterate 66). If I’m getting issues, I’ll just raise my interp to 0.033 and if I’m still having problems (usually only on USA servers), to 0.066 or use cl_updaterate 40 and set interp to 0.05/0.1.

Dunno what you mean by difference, but the lowest possible interp is used for projectiles so you can fire them as close to immediately as possible. I have 0.033 set to default for everything since the difference between that and cl_interp 0 is pretty negligible to me for rockets, and I find most servers are generally bad.

Does any one remember chris’ previous good/bad net settings from his configs?

His previous bad net settings seemed to be more useful (just in my experience). I possibly have them some where in an old txt file if I look hard enough.

I play on very low quality internet (for the UK- I’m out in the sticks), and his cfg’s have been life savers. The default settings for tf2 (which I watch stv with) are almost comical to play a projectile class.

I always wander how bad my net makes me at games that you can’t tweak the settings in comparison. I’m so glad I don’t play consoles that use p2p, playing MW2 in the evenings when I’m being throttled is a complete joke.

Well..
I play on a 30/30 fiber connection, and I use Chris’ “good connection rates”.
And yet, I’m thinking about switching back to standard rates..
I mostly see no difference, the game is broken. Hits will miss, whether or not You got sick rates. It’s just how it is, Source hit-detection is just horrible

As much as it hurts me to admit, this is what everyone has to learn to live with – at least those, who haven’t yet. Hit registration has always been a bitch, but what it has come to now is beyond retarded.

get rates that suits your playstyle? not some rates other people give and they say omfg holy smokes these rates are the best in the world omg omg omg omg omg imba rates cookye stefan uses them omg omg wtf they be guued lol no.. Rates are mostly personal preference unless your ping spikes to 500 every second as then its not the rates but your interwebs for an example using high interp as in 0.033 maybe!? could be good if your a slow track aimer as i feel it and this is my own preference dont trust it to fully because you might think otherwise and 0.0152 (aka the lowest interp you can get) is better for flick aimers as then the hitbox is most of the time ON the actull model and not infront / behind him gg take thiz advice and learn faggots :) also war you suck

Now i think rates may or may not be the problem but quad was talking about the rates and he said that if you just review some demos sometimes maybe you will gewt higher in divs and then i just went over to the TC mumble to talk about how great everyone is in the who and that what now?
