i’ve already opened a local server and i’m running the plugin :D
I see a few ETF2L players on that list.
maybe we should ban them then…
GoT | Lt. Marx :(
Yes, so BAN them!
Seriously, taking the time to jot down the 40-50ish lines of code this requires, is not only a complete waste of time, but a sure indicator on the person behind it being pretty narrow minded.
The most retarded issue to begin with, is Valve not making these useless and pitiful achievements OPTIONAL to begin with. You should be able to OPT-OUT and just get the crap they throw at you, if you wish to play the GAME, not become a statistic to ruin the publicservers for a few weeks. Let’s not even get started on “competitive play”.
You want to ban 3500 TF2 players for cheating a bit with the achivements ?
This is a lot of players and it would hurt the game a lot if they just were removed.
Ok, they used some program they shouldn’t be using, but it not like they used aimbot, wallhack or anything similar cheats.
Most people farm the achivements in a few hours with their friends/teammates anyway.
I think Valves solution to not let them use their new unlockables for a month is punishment enough.
So is achievement_scout a hacked map that unlocks all your achievements for you?
Or is it just a map designed to help people get their achievements?
The problem with tying the unlockable weapons to ach’s is that people will not wait for the ach’s to happen naturally so instead of a few people using an ach map what you’ll end up with is pubs completely full of scouts playing the game in an unnatural way.
I say let them get their ach’s over and done with and let regular TF2 get back to normal.
Is this the same guy that posted on the steam forums?
They looked up his steam id page and he had farmed pyro stats, like thousands and thousands of damage in one life or some thing lol. :)
Any way – who cares how you get the weapons? You think all the people commenting on the balance issues (div 1/2 players) got them through normal game play 24/48 hours after launch?
It’s hard to keep out of flaming with this kind of thread, this website is so utterly stupid that i’m surprised the guy doesn’t get ban from life.
But i will try.
Achievements are like PVE in mmorpg, pointless and designed for nolife gamers that care more about their shiny pretty stuff rather than their individual skill.
Everyone is not unemployed or student and have 100 hours to spend unlocking shitty achievements. If you are a “competitive player” you need all new weapons (even if they suck) and you need them fast, you don’t have any time to waste on public trying to do one thousand double jumps or other fucked up achievements like that while other teams get new weapons and big advantage on you.
I personaly downloaded an achievement map on my server and used it to get the 3 scouts weapons in like 1 hour or less. This allowed me to use them the same night on pcw and to learn their pros and cons in a 6v6 game.
The guy that developed the honeypot plugin hasn’t any huge numbers on his TF2 stats.
The original poster of this thread however ;) c’mon nightbox Most healing: 1,123,715 (as Medic)?
msleepers website http://www.msleeper.com/ condemns anyone who doesn’t get their achievements completely naturally.
Unless valve separates the weapons from the achievements people will rush to get the weapons the only way they can, be it on achievement maps or on regular maps.
Banning people for that is petty and small minded.
I’d prefer to let them farm their weapons on achievement servers instead of having to deal with 12 random scouts on a dustbowl defence stage.
Hey there, I am the author of this plugin (and the Hunted Mod, not haunted!). I’m really glad to see another community out there taking a stand against farmers. Maybe when the next Update rolls around, there will be enough communities out there running honeypots, and sharing banlists, that anyone who thinks it is safe to cheat like this won’t be able to connect to their favorite servers.
Iller – I think that farming achievements hurts the game more than banning banning the people who farm does. You are also confusing farmers – people who go to a server running a map specifically designed to let you gain your achievements quickly and with less effort than honest players – with people using an external program to unlock them. The people who used this program are the ones losing their achievements for a week (not a month), but the people who farm are receiving no punishment.
To whoever thinks I farmed any of my achievements, you can think whatever you want but I have plenty of people in my community that I play with regularly who can attest otherwise. I earned every single achievement I have the right way – in a real server running real maps with real players. It’s not impossible to do despite what some people think.
Norris – Why do people need to farm at all? What happened to earning achievements the right way – by playing the game? Stop farming and start playing.
Nightbox – I am more than happy to share my banlist in SQL format if you would like, and I would love to have yours once you are finished running your honeypot. I am afraid I can’t stop by and check your site often, but please contact me through my site and I can get back to you privately.
Together we can take back Team Fortress. :)
