Hello everyone.
There’s any chances to make fov 90 on 1280×1024 resolution?
Because i want to play on full screen and full resolution.
And i don’t like windowed mode. Yeah i can get fov 90 on 16:9 and 16:10 while in windowed mode. But i don’t like it.
So it’s possible or not?

Explain more and people might be able to help you
Also have you tried to put this in console? Fov_desired 90 ??

I don’t think there’s anything to be explained, FOV is much lower (or atleast looks like) on 4:3 resolutions even with fov_desired set to 90. He wants a way to have it higher.
Unfortunately 5:4 is a really awkward aspect ratio and you’re never going to have a lot of peripheral ingame with it, regardless of FOV.

Windowed mode.
Even though he said he doesn’t like it, there’s not much else to say.
16:9 and 16:10 don’t give “fov 90”. They give you a vertical fov of 73.74 and a horizontal fov of 100+.
To clear some misunderstandings:
– fov_desired sets your HORIZONTAL fov, assuming you’re running at an aspect ratio of 4:3 (1024*768, 1200*1600, etc) with an upper limit of 90.
– Because at 4:3 your screen is slightly wider than it is tall; your vertical fov will be lower. The vertical fov @ fov_desired 90 = 73.74 degrees. This is the maximum vertical fov that you can attain with TF2’s imposed fov_desired limits.
– Your resolution is 1280*1024 which makes an aspect ratio of 5:4. This is slightly more “square” than 4:3. As a result, at “fov_desired 90”, your actual horizontal fov is 86.3 degrees. You’re not missing much compared to 4:3 players.
– Once you start increasing the width of your resolution (or decrease the height), subsequently your aspect ratio becomes wider. The game will compensate by increasing your horizontal fov while maintaining that steady 73.74 vertical fov.
– Valve has limited fov_desired to 90 and thus vertical fov to 73.74 degrees. Horizontal fov depends on how wide your screen/window is. This is logical; you can’t increase horizontal fov while keeping vertical fov the same, without some serious lens distortion.
– So what you are looking for is something to disable the fov_desired 90 limit. This is possible with some dodgy plugins which you can use at your own risk of being banned. I think it was Casual who released an uncompiled version which you can compile yourself to minimize risk of getting VAC blacklisted. Don’t come complaining if you still get busted though.
– The only way to get a bigger horizontal fov (vertical will always be 73.74 max, without hax) is to increase your window/screen width or decrease your window/screen height. There is no other solution than “buy a new monitor” (or buy 3 :D) or “run windowed”. Alternatively, make your graphics driver run a custom resolution, so that your game can still run at a wider aspect ratio in fullscreen mode, giving you the performance advantages.
If you want to know how this is calculated, I’m a maths noob so I used Jaeger’s post #30 here: http://www.gotfrag.com/tf2/forums/thread/391383/
I hope I answered your question :P

I have tested the one Thalash used on an other account more than 2 weeks ago FYI, and the account is still not banned.
Thanks almost everyone.
So I’ll stick with windowed mode.
