Über gfx - Config/DX8?

When I über my screen goes all red/blue and it renders me blind to my surroundings. I’ve seen movies/screenshots where the screen remains somewhat ..watchable.. during über. How do I do this? I’d rather not switch to dx8, but if it’s the only way… :(

mat_specular ?
I’m probably wrong, but I think you just change mat_specular to 0. Don’t quote me on that. :x
I tried both 0 and 1 on mat_specular, still had the same result as in the picture I linked. Dont know what it is I changed but its SOMETHING I did long time ago :D ffs will look through some commands

http://imgur.com/a/Uyvmp <- mat_fastspecular 1/0, 0 top, 1 bottom. This command makes the ubered medigun look as pale as in mat_specular 0 if set to 0, but idk wth the difference is.
The game freezes and (I assume) loads the new settings when you change specular, but when you change fastspecular it doesnt freeze at all, not even for a second
I noticed the resup sign on top left, it did change during fastspecular change, heres a pic of the actuall uber during fastspecular set to 0 http://i.imgur.com/QjHQT.jpg
Mat_bumpmap, no noticeable effect either
I give up. Someone help me/spike

Yeah that looks pretty cool (apart from the silly medigun look lol). My screen goes all blurry around the edges and I can’t see a thing. I don’t mind the coloured ‘overlay’ so much.

You can change the medigun look to a more realistic look with specular set to 1. While youre at it, set bumpmap to 1

It does it on both, it just has to reload the graphics system if you turn specularity on/off. If you change fast specularity, it only changes the method (and as such doesn’t have to reload the graphics system).

Why doesnt this give me antialias x2 ingame? I have to change it manually in options every time.

mat_software_aa_edge_threshold "0"
mat_software_aa_strength "0"
mat_software_aa_quality "0"
mat_software_aa_strength_vgui "0"
mat_antialias "2"
mat_aaquality "2"
+mat_antialias 2 in launch options aswell. Help
dont use mat_aaquality “2” just leave it at default, which was like 0 or 1

I’m confused :D If mat_specular just changes the way the medigun looks, then what is it the setting to stop the screen going all blurry?

edit: I tought it was specular aswell untill I actually changed it and started experimenting

Just been testing stuff and it appears what I want can only be done by using dx8 ((
