MGE is only fun if you get a friend (or convince a stranger, which is rare but happens – hi greg2fram <3) to play it without MGE gamesense, i.e. the only thing happening is jumping as soon as you can and going for airshots
it takes 10x less time than playing it like most people do and is 10x more fun :D
Well, points are usefull to find worthy opponents.
Nothing more annoying than playing 1400 pts guys when you have 2000+ points yourself.

have you tried trying to get 20 points with only melee as the finishing weapon?
:D

quick 20-0 round and its done with, not as bad as having people just gay the fuck out constantly because they are scared they will lose their precious MGE points.

Well, I usually just !remove if I see a bad player joining.
cba playing 20/0 rounds, it’s pointless. :<
When the points get reset on an MGE server it’s ridiculous, you just slog through thirty awful games to find one good opponent. Points (or some other ranking system) need to be there. And there’s nothing wrong with most people playing in MGE. If they jump away, they’re just losing more health, and if they have the high ground, it’s up to you to get it back.
Now people changing to spec when they’re losing. That’s annoying.
maybe there is a way to remove the points and install the !div+!mainclass plugin or something like that
What rustles my jimmies is in the Ammomod-MGE arena and all the other person does is walk backwards away from you and spam rockets at your feet. They don’t actively move around the arena, or jump, or get up close and personal (the best kind of soldier battles), they just keep on backing away and spamming.
I don’t know why you tools do it, it won’t help you improve at all. Shows that you only want DEM POINTS instead of improving, or even having fun.

And here I thought that the interesting opponents were the ones that could use their movement to outplay you, even if it was as simple as going backward, each to their own I guess. Seriously though, just juggle them if they back peddle and shot and kill them when they are stationary in the air.
The nice thing about ammomod is that you don’t have any excuse if you lose. If their spam doesn’t make you leave the ground, well just juggle them and win on superior damage, if they actually hit, use their rockets to surf. But frankly it is ridiculous to argue against people not playing the way you want them to play, deal with it :-)

Constantly moving backwards and keeping as far away as possible from your opponent all the time isn’t interesting. Genuinely unpredictable movement that still involves directly engaging me face-to-face is.
Ups is a great example, he can just walk forward and still outplay me because he relies primarily on his rocket aim – which is better than mine. His movement is great, and he doesn’t need to keep really far away from you like so many other people rely on.
The walking backwards thing just makes for a really dull game, whether I beat them or not.

No, don’t deal with it, ask them nicely, it rarely works but you do get some people who agree.
Also – in order to win ammomod, jump as they fire at you, air strafe up and out of any potential airshots, spam ground, never go for airshots, wait for them to fall, etc. can be an extremely ‘gay’ arena just like any other.
I agree with sylo though, MGE soldier v soldier is only fun if you constantly jump at each other, kill yourself if you’re low and will die no matter what (don’t draw it out for fucks sake =C).
The main thing that irks me is that it is a practice mod but people play it to win, doing things they would never do in a real game in order to win. Often what works in MGE doesn’t work in 6v6 which is why ‘degrading’ it into a simple aim vs aim battle is much more fun than trying to play it tactical (lol)

I can definitely agree on a few points, play to learn, don’t play to win. E.g. Against someone playing it long range on ammomod, just practice aim at that distance, it isn’t all too uncommon in real games. Personally I prefer to stick to the ground, juggle my opponents, would you deem that cheap?

I would, it’s a viable tactic (heck I do it in game since I know it is much better to get a certain 80-100 dmg than a possible 50 on an airshot, even if I waste a second or two – besides I cant airshot so yeah. anyhow.) but ammomod imo is practice, practice for aim, so not going for airshots wont help you much

In an actual game, there isn’t a good reason for the soldier to get off spire either. You bomb him to get him off and if you succeed you now have the same advantage. I don’t see any problem.
Because MGE isn’t a real game. You’re practicing aim/DM. Starting every round with a significant advantage/disadvantage to your opponent isn’t really conducive to that.
Also it’s not particularly fun.
