As #tf2mentor seems to have completely died out, I figured I’d give posting here a go.

I’m looking for someone to teach me the finer arts of the healbot. Preferably something that goes beyond the one-off watching a demo together – I really want to progress, not just get a few arbitrary tips and tricks and be done with it.
I’m said to be capable of div3 ish so ideally I’d want someone that is around div1 / top div2.

Things I desperately need help with include but are not limited to:
– Main calling (though I doubt that’s something you can teach)
– Positioning
– Über timing

(if you’re really bored, I have a 20GB archive of POV demos)

Hit me up on irc/steam or reply here. Many thanks! :)

Positioning depends on your teammates and the enemy
Calling depends on your teammates and the enemy
Uber timing depends on your teammates and the enemy
etc

I just don’t think you can l2med properly in a “dry” clinical environment… it’s not theory (and the theory that IS there, is easily learnable, it’s called tf2wiki). Med is all about supporting your team and getting the best out of every class (by calls and heal priorities); learn by playing. Also, every time you die or your team fails horribly, try to look at what you could have done better to prevent it (was it your own positioning? was it your teammates’ positioning? maybe you should have called them to do differently?).

For the rest, use kuma’s golden tip: Everytime you play, focus on 1 certain aspect of your play, and try to make that better. Be it your calls, your uber timing (keeping track of enemy’s uber) your general focus, your positioning, your heal priorities, etc etc.

heal your demoman is a very good tip.

Naturally, but it wouldn’t hurt to have someone bluntly point out the mistakes you make – maybe you get pointed at things you weren’t aware of or simply didn’t even consider thinking about. Left click and follow pocket is easy. If that was all there is to it then we’d all be in prem, had it not been for the fact teams only need 1 med (and there are a grand total of 4 prem teams).
You’re right though, I got to where I am now mostly by experience. Play lots = learn to recognise situations = act appropriately. That’s not to say there isn’t anything to teach, surely?

Just analyse what went wrong all the time, and work on positioning and buffing people etc.

Also work on rocket jumping, it can really save your life if you can pull it off. By that i don’t mean looking at the floor and jumping and hoping you get hit by a rocket and fly a bit.

Also don’t look at the floor while dodging.

Also if you spazz your mouse left and right while strafing left and right your model does a spazz as well, makes it harder to hit.

I knew it wouldn’t take long for someone to point that out :(
I don’t know why I do this. Just bad habit of pulling the mouse towards me when I’m dodging stuff, dunno.

WaAS?

go through your demos, whilst watching over them you can really see what you could have done better/who would have been more beneficial to heal etc…

I would also be interested in having a medic mentor, to maybe give me a few tips that might help me improve.

Step 1 ignore atrox’s advice xD
