You dont have to move your mouse as much as you’d think, the key to quad pistoling is strafe aiming ;)
It is really just down to preference.
In theory:
Lower sens = more precision
Higher sens = faster reaction
you would want the fastest reaction speeds without affecting your precision.
you would want the most precision without affecting your reaction speeds.
By reaction speeds i mean the time it takes for your crosshair to travel from not being on a player… to being on one.
I tend to use the lowest sensitivity possible without affecting my movement. This is because i generally dont need to move my crosshair to the target too quickly since i use scattergun and sniper, and those weapons have pauses in between shots (gives me time to find my aim). With those guns it is also not so much about aiming correctly, but more about clicking at the correct time.
With a rocket launcher, I would want as high a sens as possible, without affecting my precision too much. This is because an effective soldier would read their opponents movement, and react quickly to place a rocket away from the enemy, in the direction they are moving. Timing can mean everything with projectile weapons,as they could change direction at any time.
Also take into account if your movement skills are effected.
Anyway, regardless of all my (basic) theory, I think the best thing you can do is pick a sensitivity you are comfortable with, and then stick to it forever. When you need to make a shot, you won’t be looking at the crosshair so much because you will already subconciously know how far you need to move your mouse, to move X distance on your screen.

I’ve used both High and Low sensitivities when playing scout, I started with a 9cm/360 when I first picked up the class, with this I found myself doing well in a high octane fight, like jumping around the medic + combo whilst flicking to do shots.
Here’s a clip with said sensitivity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Eb-HsKI3s
The downfall with this was the 1v1’s against other scouts and classes, it was harder for me to line up a shot and flick to the player, as I was used to sniping and the kar in dod1.3 where there wasn’t a lot of dodging from the other player.
There was also a period where I had around 100cm/360, this made me more accurate in 1v1’s but also held me back in high octane fights where I had to move around a lot.
In that video you can see the where I was picking my mouse up to turn around, back then I had a small mousemat so it was quite tough.
Now I use 34cm/360, for now I am finding it comfortable but I haven’t had the chance to actually try a low sensitivity, especially now as I have a 90cm mousemat to actually use it :P
As you can see compared to the first I can turn around a lot easier and have enough space to continue aiming in the same arm movement without picking my mouse up, I also am able to do flick shots and some tracking.
There’s nothing wrong with a high sensitivity, I might even start trying it out now I have the pad for it, but as long as you can do everything you need to do in a match like turning, jumping, flicking and tracking then you should be fine.
None of this has anything to do with the op. he’s asking the difference between using:
#1 lower dpi/higher in-game sens
#2 higher dpi/lower in-game sens
to achieve exactly the same sensitivity overall (deg or cm/360). Basically there is no difference in theory, but personally I feel there is a small one in practice. Therefore, I use #1 from preference.

400-800 dpi is the only I recommend
I use 450 since it feels more consistent, when im flicking, or tracking.
Im shit anyways you all know ;)

thats not flicking thats like a robotic wrist man your wrist action from what I saw at LAN is crazy
Quad, everytime you post, I just feel like you’re using the exact same setup as me. Let me clear this up once and for all lol.
Steelseries Xai
Steelseries QCK+
Razer Lycosa
Samsung 2233RZ
450 dpi
1.4 sens (or 1.6 can’t remember what I changed it to)
m_pitch -0.022
gogogo
:P
With Arx on the soldier/scout thing. I use 30cm for scout or something, 20ish for soldier iirc.

180 turn bot :P
Low dpi. Higher in game. To me it felt less consistent at high dpi low in game.
High dpi mice giving you an advantage in game is a total myth. It is purely a selling point. They are great for high sense players and that is about it.
With low sense you still feel a slight difference between high and low dpi. But I have never thought it to be a good difference. Or a bad difference. What you really need to look at. Is looking at your current gamestyle. Are you a scout who largely bases his game around his movement or who largely bases his game around perfect aim with every shot.
Imo movement requires higher sense. And aim requires lower sense. Pick one or try both, say one is 45 cm and the other is 15 and try and go for one or the other and stick with it for a while. Then slowly adjust it so that you start to get a good balance of the 2 without affecting your play style.

many thanks for the help/advice, I’ll give this a go. Best quote Ive recieved about lowering DPI on my mouse is “whats the point in buying a high sens mouse if your gonna use 800DPI?” what an idiot

400 dpi 1.65 ingame :)
Recommend Low DPI .. In my opinion its easier to Get a more exact cm/360 than a high DPI
how the fuck do you guys browse the internet with 400 dpi, it’s so fucking slow

when you get your EC1 try 1000dpi, i like it the best since 500dpi is way too slow for normal use and 2000dpi is bit funky feeling when playing. There is the DPI changer in the bottom of the mouse but it’s not exactly “on the fly” like other mouses. I just settled with 1000dpi @ 1000hz and it’s perfect and no useless switching needed.
