Fair points and yeah, Gonzo’s a bullheaded fucker that’s for sure. Doesn’t mean hes a prick though, he’s pretty similar to every Geordie I’ve ever met (I guess the added factor of being brought up in Wales doesn’t help). Regarding the cadred mongs, I haven’t really noticed anything too bad over the last few news pieces but I have witnessed on countless occasions how dumb things can get on there. Thats just part and parcel of playing online games if you ask me though. With the majority of playerbases being 13-21. So of course kids are gona act like internet warriors, especially when they have a monitor to sit behind. The TF2 community compared to others has a higher average age of the people playing it, alot higher I’d say. Which is probably why in general you aren’t used to such goings on. But as TF2 grows, things will get alot worse because as it gets more and more popular the average age will get lower and lower. Why not acclimatise yourself for the future? :D
A Welsh Geordie? That explains it then i guess :). I think his full time job is e-sports journalism on Cadred, so hes going to protect his “interests”/Job and ban some over enthesiastic TF2 posters, which is fair enough i guess. However Cadred is a double edged sword, you can indeed increase the popularity of TF2 by branching out there and hope we grab the nicer players who want to switch games (see Greg/Arcy/other decent lads from cs etc) but then you may just open the flood gates for faggots and make decent TF2 players lose interest.
Every game has annoying shitters, but TF2 needs to grow, the least people can do is comment of fucking articles Admirable has posted. It’s not that much to ask, is it?
Just to try and reiterate my point:
Tf2uk isn’t supposed to just be a news outlet. It’s supposed to be a gathering place for all levels of UK based players to talk about the game they love, organise themselves for lans, discuss tactics, learn from each other, just generally become a closer knit community.
Again, the finns, Swedes, Germans, Portuguese, dutchies, Russians, French etc etc all do a similair thing. Why can’t the UK scene do it? (Except the obvious reason of everyone in the UK being far too self concerned)
You can’t just make a website and expect people to go there, Enef, it needed planning, a lot more planning, it needed advertising, exposure, threads created everywhere, a pickup channel would have helped where you could force people to register on the forums in order to play in the channel.
Not only that the UK scene is filled with trolls anyway.
tf2uk fighting~~♥
Whilst I agree a little more planning could have helped, spamming forum posts, advertising everywhere etc etc would still have been wholly pointless. A site like this needs someone to take a jump and give it a go, it requires a small userbase to provide a decent level of activity and content. What exactly would we be advertising at this point? A quiet forum, a couple of news related posts and some poorly written spam from me.
Noone expects this to be an overnight success, me and swarlz both understand this will take time and effort and it will require a lot of support. We already have a few ideas to promote the site and its activity, the frontpage is open to anyone to register and contribute, it just requires myself or swarlz to OK it.
Tapley and kuma have both agreed to help however they can and hopefully over the next few weeks we’ll be defining the positions we need and finding suitable people to fill them.
I love admirable so this is not a personal attack against him – however everyone seems to be looking for other routes to a TF2UK community, when tbh if they were viable routes they would of been taken by now. TF2UK was put up without much prior planning but like enef said you just got to take the jump – we have a few ideas which are being undergone now and tbh the biggest reason TF2UK wasnt raging community from the bat is that everyones going “lol wont work” “torolol” Like typical UK fags. Rather than getting behind it and trying to make something for ourselves that will be help everyone.

Surely a sub forum on a forum we all already visit makes more sense than an entirely new website to keep track of, after all we are a fairly lazy bunch.
Also a whole pickup channel for british people seems a bit ambitious, it makes sense to start out with to just mix with more british people etc

why not just kick everyone from pixel re-implement the bot and just allow people from uk in just have a key to the channel that can be given to people once its been checked they are from the uk.

With the greatest of respect Enef, you’ve got two idiots running the project. If you do that, you’re not going to achieve anything awesome. I love both you and Swarlz but in my humble opinion, neither of you are prepared or motivated enough to run a project like this and carry it through to fruition.
I won’t quote you again as I hate multi-quote posts, but as you’ve already agreed – your planning on this was dogshit. To run a successful project you need to think about all of the goals you want to achieve. Then look at the blank slate you have and build up a series of milestones which will help you to achieve that goal.
What has been done so far absolutely horrifies me. You used a fucking dire (when default) WordPress theme, that was already beautifully used and modified by Torden for Vanilla TF2. You then setup a forum that didn’t really offer anything different than here except for a place for people to write more stupid spam.
If you get the right people to run the project, with the right plan and actually have worthwhile goals that are attainable – you can probably get something exciting for the UK players in the TF2 community. I think it would be quite nice to have a local hub where we can all engage in witty banter and hopefully attract new players to the game from other games/communities.
Please don’t take anything I’ve said here as anything other than friendly criticism. If you want to have a chat at the weekend, I can spare a couple of hours to work with you on a better plan for the project if you’d like :) Just drop me a line on Steam!
Good luck Ballsack and Swirly! -x-
