I’ve got over 600 hours of TF2 and played matches with NA stars and won, the fact that i’m in a low division really is irrelevant to how good a mentor someone is

not looking to get into an argument, but isn’t the point of mentoring to teach someone tactics and teamplay for tf2?

Pirateer

yes, whats your point

actually you know what just leave it, I don’t wanna get into an argument over something as petty as division rank

my only point is that there really is no teamplay or tactics in division 6.

anyway, i’ll leave it.

What Chris is saying is that you lack the 6v6 experience to mentor him because you play don’t have experience in higher rank matches where tactics and teamwork play a much bigger role

Pirateer

damn guys you don’t get it
just leave it

Since when do you need a specific devisions to know teamwork or to be able to help division6 people improve?

Surely, a division 1 player might be able to do a better job, but that’s not relevant. The guy is wanting to help people out, let him.

It’s true, I’m a div5 medic and I’ve helped a div6 team with stuff, and it seems to work for them. Granted, I can’t teach them everything, but I’ve gone from div6 to 5 so I must know something, right?

Div6 players (that put the work into their team) and Premier players both know a lot about the game. The main difference is that Premier players know how to apply this knowledge to the game well, where div6 players still make a lot of mistakes and when they watch their own demos later on, you can be sure they can pick out most of their mistakes and say exactly what it is they need to improve on.

That’s why it doesn’t matter what division you’re in if the purpose is to mentor someone. Yes, it will be lacking compared to a higher division player. But you can be damn sure having a person outside of your team critically watching you is helpful, no matter what experience he has.

Commitment, willingness, trust. Div6 is lacking these, so what else is there to be said?

the approach of saying that div6 players know exactly what to do just cant execute it as well is VERY optimistic… not saying its not true but i certainly doubt it applies to the vast majority.

^^my personal experience anyway.

Bollocks. Low division players can’t mentor people/teams properly.
Like most people I started out in div5 and I can safely say I did the wrong stuff consistently.
Not hating on low division players, because pretty much anyone can play in div3 if they get the right opportunities.

Short sighted tbh, the fact that Div6 is lower than pro divisions dosen’t mean that Div6 players are untrustworthy, can’t be assed or unwilling. I may not be as good as higher div players, but div dosen’t matter. I’m willing to help anyone who is new to 6v6,show them the ropes and teach them skills, roles, tactics, rollouts, proper comms etc.

I go over my demos regularly, pick out mistakes, and work on them in scrims and pugs. I can do that with any player, and it helps a lot.

Of course anyone in div6 with expirence can help new players, but i suggest they pick the right kind of div6 team/players. As div6 from my expirence is full of either:
A – Older players who have some gamesense and just like to play tf2 but dont really have any aim.
B – 15 year old dribbling spastics who play MGE mod all day but still can’t develop any brains so remain div6.

Best way to learn is to play with a decent bunch of friendly div6’ers and pick up your aim on your own, until your ready to move up to a better team who can teach you more of both gamesense and aim.
