C2D E2180 2.0Ghz
Asus nVidia 8600 GTS 512mb
2 Gb Ram ddr2
using maxframes.cfg
using dxlevel 80
using 800×600
using picmip hack (nub’s one)
fps goes between 10 and 70.
PS: in before new PC as my i5 + 5770 + 4gb combo is on shop as my PSU died)

ah, i have a core 2 duo @ 2 Ghz as well but my RAM is 3 GB (added an extra 1 GB cos TF2 takes alot of it)
i used to get 100+ fps and when some action starts it drops to near 20.
Its the processing. You need a better processor… i have nvidia 9600 GT and i have to kill all applications and close my antivirus before launching tf2. By doing that i get 60-120 fps. 60 during fights and whatnot, 120 when idling (with fps_max 120 by chris’s fps cfg)
add this launch option as well
-gl -high -w 640 -w 480
believe it or not this actually increased my fps by 20-30.
hope this helps, Peace.

Er, -gl is a bad idea (I’m not even sure it does anything any more), -high is a bad idea because of the potential for mouse lag.
Might as well just tell him to change his res.

well i’m enjoying -high and -gl with 60-70 fps which is heaven to me.
I’ll try without -gl i havent tried that and -high actually does help me. Just me i guess..
ocing is the cheapest
if overheating is a prob, just grab proper cooler for 20-30quid and fixd
also u can prolly run tf2 at 1280×1024 and it wont decrease fps at all as long as u got chris fps cfg
test it urself to find best res using timedemo

well AnimaL, as I said my main PC is on store as my PSU died, i’ll have it back in 15 days though, so I wont buy a cooler…
will try -high. btw, what does -gl do?
It is supposed to run the game in OpenGL. You don’t want that, not that it works anyway.
anyway, the -high -gl just solved my prob (aparently -gl isnt working but I’ll let the comand there)
was bouncing between 10 and 70 fps and now its bouncing between 80 and 120 (the limit). YEY

Just clocked my AMD X2 4850e from 2.5GHz –> 2.9GHz.
Took me 3h and 0€
Will do a timedemo some day and come up with the results.
