For some time now I cannot watch any of my recent demos. I get the infamous hl.exe error the moment I load the demo :S

I do NOT have this problem with others’ demos (tried with some STV demos)…

Is this a known bug? Does anyone know how to fix that? Help appreciated.

Sounds strange… I’ve never had it. Have you tried vertifing your game cache? that might fix it.

Hmm, did you stop recording abruptly? (eg. disconnect from server, tf2 got killed, etc.)

Also, try disabling multi-core rendering.

Did both, same error as before :(

Also tried recording manually (without p-rec) – didn’t work.

I’ll try and cleanup the cfg, although I didn’t change a thing for months. My demos just suddenly went broke…

Redoing the complete install didn’t work. -.-

Can you play other demos?

Upload your demo for someone else to try.

Have you tried disabling multicore ?

Yes, I tried disabling multicore rendering.

Anyways, tried with a mate’s POV demo – could view it without issues. But when another friend tried viewing MY POV demo, he got the hl.exe crash as well. :S

Apparently I can record broken demos!!1! o/

And I don’t have a clue why, wonderful.

I was gonna suggest to try renaming your demo and see if that works, but if you recorded manually and you got it too then I doubt it’ll work

I can play recent demos and old ones i cant bcos demos break afters updates maybe thats the issue not sure though.

@Reload: As expected, didnt work. :P

@vanadium: Demos broken after an update aren’t the issue. Even if I don’t close the gam between recording and viewing a demo file, it doesnt work.

@tesla: Uhm… woot?!

Alright, after some emails with Steam support (“Update drivers! etc) I was told to delete the whole steamappps/YOURACCOUNTHERE/team fortress folder and then let steam re-download any missing files via the “Verify game cache” thingy.

Well, it worked. Deleting the old files seems to play an important role in verifying them… whatever. It worked, and thats the only important thing here. ^^

Props to steam support!
