Hey,

When i’m watching demos from very good scouts i see that they are not jumping around like crazy and moving like crazy. People i play against always do this and it makes them harder to kill. How come those good scouts don’t need to dodge so much but still stay alive?

Anathema

It’s really easy to hit someone who’s in the air because they’re predictable.
They can’t change their direction of movement while flying, they can while on the ground.

Possibly because a good scoot waits for the baddies to shoot an explodey thing at them, then moves away from the explodey thing?

Random movement gets you noticed and increases your chance of jumping into spam…

I read the topic as Scout Dogging, imagine my disappointment :(

This.

I had to unbind my spacebar at a point so I wouldn’t jump around so much :/

Thanks i’ll take that advice, and sorry for your dissapointment :P

No need to dodge. Just W+M1 into them and pwn all over the place.

minimoose

It depends, if you are on ~10 hp, jumpy random movements can help a lot if you are trying to delay an uber from going onto your heavies or cap point blocking.

Funny actually you assume this too be very bad advice but you’d be suprised how many players do that and always walk away with a kill. :P Bloody meatshots

It’s mostly because it’s not expected. And especially if following jumpy side-to-side dodging suddenly gunning straight at the target is surprisingly effective since they’re in a side to side rythm.

not even against projectile classes?

not even against projectile classes?

vs projective class = soldier/demo knows exactly where you land.
i might sound like an elitist knob, but division 1 soldiers and demomans aims are much better than lower divisions – this is true. whilst double jumping against projective classes in divisions 3 and lower (3 might be pushing it), you’d be able to succesfully dodge. however, pit yourself against someone from a div1 team and double jumping won’t usually work.

It doesn’t really work against lower div soldiers either, maybe it does against demomen more though.

If you’re jumping around a solly frantically, he can blast you up into the sky, you might not even be able to double jump in the air to change direction if you’ve already done it.

Getting out of the habit of not jumping everywhere is very tough though, I find that I can still aim pretty well when I’m jumping everywhere like mad, I tend to try and jump over the classes heads.

But it doesn’t always work and it’s still a habit I’m trying to grind out.

a good scout shoots first, the end.
