Get this in your heads guys :(:(:( I can’t get a desktop NO non nein das ist nicht gut. I can’t get a desktop. Although I am saving up to get a nice laptop with an i7 :> should have enough in a few months (Been saving for a long time lol) Anyway for the moment I’m stuck with this. The thing I’m most interested in is my friend gets 70 fps on a worse laptop and I don’t get 70 fps on a (better, slightly) laptop (although at points I’m touching 17!)
When I got my laptop 2 years ago now, I had like 150fps with no sort of config on, but now Ive had to lower my res, make my game look like lego and I still get shitty fps drops to like 20.
I can’t wait to finish Uni and buy a desktop :o
Anyways, why I came here, Chris, what sort of difference should there be between your best looking and worst looking cfgs. I ask this because Ive tried them all, with the worst looking I get drops to 20, and with the best looking I get drops to 20….both with fps_max 66……surely that shouldnt be, I essentially see 0 difference =[
chris said something about dont set fps max lower than cmd rate or something….

Because if you receive 66 updates from the server, why only show 60 of them on your screen? Anyway, afaik that has nothing to do with fps drops.

sounds like a job for format C: if its recent drops… the engine itself hasnt been updated for some time now, at least fps hasnt been affected.
also, as u know, game depends on cpu so if ur cpu can handle only 20fps at, say mids, then u gonna get 20fps on any graphic settings….
Can you give more info on what ur using? hardware and software?

Its not mid fight drops – its just random, like a rocket jump etc, mid fights are usually fine, theres no pattern to the drops tbh
Vista 32bit
4GB Ram
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @2.10GHz 2.10GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
laptop trolol :(
Ive never formatted this since I got it so I dunno if it would be anything to do with that.

antivirus(if any) set to ignore steam directory?
cpu overheating could cause “random” drops, since older pc’s dont just downclock cpu, but throttle it to 50% or less so u get random fps drops… check temps aswell

cpu temps should be logged and test them under load (use everest or speedfan, both have log function)

any it professional’s worst nightmare
I thought that was norton :D

I thought that was norton :D
avg has been even worse than norton in recent years, norton was the worst up until about 08, then avg became the new norton
so the order of it professional nightmares now goes:
1.) avg
2.) norton
3.) bulldog
4.) mcafee
