Interesting, I don’t get this problem and I have mat_bumpmap 0.
different dx settings?
this is common bug with dx8 & bumpmap 0

Both are caused by using mat_specular on dx8
basicly black intel = shining uber & normal intel = no shining uber
mat_specular 0 = no shining uber = no fire texture
mat_specular 1 = shining uber = fire texture
