Frankly we don’t have many cheaters in our league and those that do cheat are usualy weeded out and banned without too much fuss.

External anti-cheat programs are a giant waste of time, they do nothing but catch idiots that would be caught anyway, they get in the way of honest gamers and are quite simply just giant inconvenience’s.

If someone is stupid enough to run the anti-cheat client while cheating then they would be found out by the community anyway. However if we really MUST have a anti-cheat client then make it server side and built into the etf2l config.

And an AC client solves none of this, sure it will catch idiots but then we as a community are already perfectly capable of doing this anyway.

AC clients aren’t the end all be all for catching and stopping cheaters. They are merely another tool in the arsenal of an AC team. Unless ofcourse you want to scrap the AC team and rely entirely on a software program, which is only as capable as the person who wrote it. Add on top of this the costs of keeping such a client up to date (teaching a human AC member nuances and having him learn through experience is probably going to be cheaper than paying a developer to update an AC client).

And they are still not unbeatable, sure you reduce the potential number of cheaters somewhat, but you don’t fix the problem.

The same discussions over and over again, many players dont want a clientside ac-prog for various reasons.
And still, there is many of us who is tired of cheaters not getting caught.
So admins, please make a decision and lock this thread.

My suggestion is to take contact with the maker of Dblocker and ask him if he can modify his prog to fit ETF2L.

cos you can currently run EVERY cheat in TF2 without beeing caught. with anticheat like aequitas you will eliminate the use of a lot of cheats who are not AC-Proofed (called public cheats). and with a client-AC hackers will maybe be afraid to be caught.

tl;dr:
– currently every public noob hack is working @ tf2
– client AC caughts most of the public cheats

So basically, most the people arguing against the AC from what I see have no idea about AC’s or hacks other than the fact they don’t want to run a AC because its a “inconvenience.”

I want to explain why you’re wrong with your assumptions but quite frankly, I don’t imagine I’ll get a positive response…

Quite simply, with the current set up anyone with ANY idea who chose to could easily enough fire up some random public hacks or link some stuff together which they could not do under AC…

With a AC even such as x-ray generally you’re severely limiting how easy it is to hack via limiting basically every public hack, especially those with visuals, compared to the current situation where, everyone and their grandparents can simply get hold of the right combination of public hacks and probably not get caught.

(My last paragraph is a bad explanation and wrote horribly, but you get the point)

No the argument is stupid because its a logical fallacy. You’re argument is exactly the same as saying “we should install CCTV in everyone’s homes, AND IF YOU DON’T WANT IT YOU’RE OBVIOUSLY A TERRORIST!!”. No the simple fact is I just don’t want a fucking CCTV camera in my bedroom, in the same way I don’t want some awful AC client that doesn’t really help the situation. Smart people will always find a way around the rules that makes it a minor inconvenience.

2) Just because you haven’t had problems with a particular AC client, it doesn’t mean its perfect. X-Ray and aequitas are perfect example. Ignoring the fact that both of them are only fractionally more useful than a chocolate teapot, they cause huge problems to a significant number of people, and infact I know of a couple of teams who dropped out of the original ED TF2 ladder simply because of X-Ray causing so many problems.

By comparing AC to a camera in your house and just the general way you’ve worded that, there’s no point me coming up with a response to such a point.

I don’t understand how you can be involved in competitive gaming and NOT understand how a anti cheat can help, basing everything around a cheat council is bad, end of, its not that I can’t argue my point, its that I don’t need to who someone thinks like that, you’re basically arguing at anti cheat been pointless because it doesn’t stop everything and causes a few minor problem…protip; other games don’t use AC clients for the crack of it.

I don’t want to argue completely about this matter, but quite simply, other games have gone a lot longer than TF2 using anti cheat, for obvious reasons, I don’t see the difference other than the updates, minor inconveniences considered its still a more positive result using a AC if you can’t see that your self there’s no point arguing my point to you.

If anti cheats were bad all the time and didn’t work out, they wouldn’t be in use.
