for security purpose and why not for increase pageload improvement. latest nginx mainline version support http 2 which will gain site improvement
google also reward website with ssl and prioritize those site on google search

I’m not sure what SEO ETF2L has, but;

I would imagine if they’re going to impliment anything new (such as SSL) it’ll be developed within the beta site, and released once said beta is concluded.
