I don’t really like having discussions in News post comments, so please excuse me for creating this thread.
So, my take on the new unlocks:
Generally, I am okay with allowing underused/underpowered weapons, so if the Sun-on-a-Stick is in the whitelist, why not. There may yet be an awesome play coming with one of them, and until then it won’t make a difference (see Concheror <3).
I like the CnD, it allows for better timed Spy plays. It's also balanced, since your team is basically one player down until a pick happens anyway (same with Sniper).
On the flipside, the Red-Tape Recorder is quite broken and thus banned in Highlander. This is only countered by the rare occurance of a Spy versus Sentry situation in 6v6. It's the same with the Homewrecker. Which makes it still okay to be allowed, I suppose?
I do not agree with the Razorback unlock. It is almost solely used in Highlander with Jarate as a distant second already. Countering Snipers – probably the most used offclass – with Spies in 6s can be a viable alternative to Sniper versus Sniper battles in some occasions. The Razorback almost completely shuts down this tactic, especially since the Ambassador is still banned. Gunning the Sniper down with three Revolver shots takes a comparably long time while being exposed, and time while being exposed is something Spies don't really have versus a decent team.
I am quite indifferent concerning the other unlocks, but I would like to hear other opinions :)
I agree
I am sorry, I literally have never seen a spy intentionally go for a sniper pick. besides ipz in the finals. :>

Admittedly, if I can go for a demo or medic pick instead, I will. But if they don’t keep the Sniper close to the core team, picking him is relatively easy and an escape/second pick is quite possible, turning the number advantage in the Spy’s team favour while greatly decreasing the danger of the own team’s medic/demo to get picked.
I’m personally a little sceptical about the cloak and dagger as it takes away the need for good coordination with your team; instead of getting in postion and having 5 seconds for (example) your roamer to jump in for a distraction, your roamer has way more time to jump in which makes running a spy less skillful.
Definitely understand all the advantages, though, just hoping it won’t be too easy to be picked by a spy as medic next season :P
Most of these unlocks will never be used. Either take the dive and add some game changers or don’t. Adding these pointless weapons like southern hospitality, sun on a stick, fan of war, you’re not changing anything.
Last unlock wave involved some weapons that get actual use, banners, FAN, cannon. This is somewhat disappointing, only things that’ll get used will be cnd and razorback and they’re both utility… I suppose maybe we could possibly see a new fast rollout using the 300hp overheal shoes? :/

CnD is something interesting to see used, as you could just do the same thing as you would do in HL and just stand still somewhere, calling where they are coming and stuff.
But of course, it’s pretty much one player down then all the time.
Bushwacka with Fan O’War or Buff Banner might change something and be a quite interesting combo to try, as well as The Southern Hospitality with the bleed and damage possibly and how Pyros are that rarely used.
Allowing the Ambassador would be quite bad though in my opinion, since I guess that then there would be a lot more Spy players just headshotting others and not doing much else, banning the Razorback might be a better option to do than allow Ambassador which has its own overpowers.
Other than that, most other unlocks are quite harmless but at the same time I don’t see why was there any need to add them, and as well I don’t think anyone would have even used them much anyway.
Don’t know what to think about these until the season will properly start then.
It’s shit
Market gardener please!

SH doesn’t add anything to 6s, but it’s still a direct upgrade over Stock and Jag in a 6s scenario.
I am not entirely sure how SH is an upgrade of the 30% faster construction rate of the Jag in 6s.

1. It’s a 15% construction rate, and not 30% (the item description lies)
2. The bonus is only there when building it up to lvl1, and not for upgrading
Basically 6 jag hits vs. 7 wrench hits for a lvl1, that’s assuming you hit your sentry to get it to lvl 1 faster, which you’ll never need, since placing the sentry, going back to spawn for metal and coming back to the sentry when it’s already lvl1 is going to get you a faster lvl2 and lvl3 (at the cost of a slower lvl1, which is totally worth it).
Not sure where the resentment of “useless” unlocks comes from. If you believe that these unlocks have no gameplay impact and will not contribute to 6v6, then why should they remain banned?
“It’s banned because it’s useless” isn’t a particularly good way to justify competitive rules to newcomers. Isn’t having less arbitrary restrictions a good thing?
I’m glad we’re finally getting away from the “it’s useless in 6v6, so ban it” mindset. Eventually, only the broken or overpowered weapons should be disallowed.
However, I don’t think having 6v6 and highlander whitelists the exact same is a good idea (Direct Hit and Loch-n-Load springs to mind). Think about each weapon before it’s added and add them in waves (just like you’re doing).
