I never got to seriously try out 6v6 with NA’s Ruleset and I would like that.

Game Settings
Regulation Max Rounds:
Control Point – 5 Rounds
Attack and Defend – 2 Rounds
King of the Hill – 4 rounds
Capture the Flag – No Limit
Overtime Max Rounds – 1
For control point maps, each match will consist of two halves. The first half will end if the 3 target capture limit or the 30 minute time limit is reached.The second half will end if a team reaches the total 5 captures or the 30 minute time limit is reached. If at the end of the match, the scores are tied, overtime is played.
For attack and defend maps, such as cp_gravelpit, the home team will pick whether they would like to attack or defend first. In one round, each team will have a turn to attack and defend. The team with the most control point captures at the end of the round will receive a point, if both teams have the same amount of control point captures, the team that captured the points fastest will be awarded a point. The match is over once one team is awarded two points.
For king of the hill maps, each match will consist of two halves. The first half is over when one team reaches three captures. At the end of the first half teams switch side and the second half begins. When one team reaches four captures the match is over.
For a capture the flag map, each match will consist of two 20 minute halves. After both halves the team with the most captures wins.
Overtime – If at the end of the second half there is a tie, there will be an overtime period. If the map stalemates in overtime, teams will be switched and the overtime period continues without a ready up period. When a team captures out on the map, overtime is over and that team wins. For CTF maps, OT will be a 10 minute round where the team with the most captures wins.
Critical Shots will be turned OFF
All ESEA servers will have the ESEA Open Source Plug-in which provides NO random damage

I don’t see any reasonable way of testing the NA map rules in a one-night cup, because any map can take anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour. And with the HLNC in full swing and the 6v6NC beginning shortly, I’m not sure if there will be time for a multi-week cup.

Test with ladder? Make 2 ladders, even 3, 1 with rules 1 with unlocks and 1 with both. Wait 2 months, otherwise known as over summer, see if any is popular, learn stuff, profit, etc.

I’m afraid we do not have the ability to change code for the ladders for the time being, so that’s out of the question.

Would there be any interest in a multi-week full NA rules cup spanning the entirety of August? Map rules + unlock rules both. Maybe even cp_process as one of the maps?

NA rules, yes.

Unlocks no.

One test at a time. The rules are more important the the unlocks.

I’m up for a rules cup, an unlocks cup and a mix cup of both.

Its a cup not a season, i think we should have na rules and unlocks. You people way too afraid for unlocks. Stop being so Lame. Okay i know vanilla is awesome but we dont know about na ruleset combined with the unlocks, it opens so many more ways and i think that more skill will be needed and it will get alot more “pubfriendly”, i think that a na week or two maybe even 3 would be really cool. Na rules, na maps, na unlocks. If you dont like it wait for next season :)

I can think of three ways of doing this. I’ll just leave them here to gauge interest:

1. One night cup:

Thursday;
NA unlock rules (ESEA S11);
cp_process as one of the maps;
a week to play finals.

2. Three night cup:

Tuesday+Wednesday+Thursday
One match per night;
Default time of 20 CEST;
Can be rescheduled, coinflips for missing results at 23 CEST;
NA map rules(1 map per match, halftime);
NA unlock rules (ESEA S11);
cp_process as one of the maps;
week to play finals.

3. Three week cup.

5 days per match, default days on Thursdays or Sundays(whichever comes later in playweek);
NA map rules(1 map per match, halftime);
NA unlock rules (ESEA S11);
cp_process as one of the maps;
Depending on bracket size, finals before (8 teams) or after (16 teams) i46.

Map rules are not doable in a one night cup due to high uncertainty in match time. Badlands in ETF2L takes between 10(rape) and 40 (GC) minutes. Badlands in ESEA takes between 10(rape) and 60(20 + 10(halftime break) + 20 + GC) minutes. A 50 minute fluctuation margin is ill suited for a timed cup I’m afraid.

The three can be split into their own cups in any combination – though, I hold the opinion that unlocks contribute to the Americans’ more aggressive playstyle no less than their map rules do.

One thing’s for sure, the cup(s) must be done before September – we’d like feedback on this before Season 13, and we have other projects for Fall.

You are right and therefor it’s (imho) pretty impossible to do as one night cup

Plan it for an hour? More brackets, with less teams per bracket, so we can do it in same amount of time?

P.S

An american said that when he used vanilla as roamer, he had to go even more agressive, since it was harder for him to simply jump back out. I think it has a lot to do with the mentality the the two sides, more than rules.

But with NA rules at least, parking the bus is not actually rewarded. On the other hand I do like two maps per official, since you can sometimes get a wake up call on first map and go onto win the second.

P.P.S

Fuck process.
