I don’t think they tend to aware default dates on obscure/dates times unless there’s no communication to the contrary from the enemy team.

They don’t want fixed dates because then if one team reveals they can’t play the default date, it makes default win hunting very easy.

[…]How come that we do not want fixed default dates? – Personally, I do not like them. If one team can not play on the default date the other team can force them to play on it anyway (if they do not have a wildcard left) and abuse the system. With customised default dates you can still leave a message on the match page with some proposals that would work for your team and it is unlikely that you will get a default date for a different day.
The manual system has proven itself in the past (although it is a high workload for the admins).

I do not understand what you mean with your last sentence. In the past, many teams in the ETF2L actually played on the default date.

Fair enough. I meant people rescheduled once they had received the default date.

That might be the case for the higher divisions but I havent observed this much in the lower ones.

Well, one of the advantages is that it’s easier to put a default date on a preferred date earlier in the week (Monday/Tuesday) now. At what point would you want to see teams getting a warning?

If it takes them over a week to respond to a challenge or date proposal.

This. For instance, there are teams that prefer to play on sunday. A couple of seasons ago the default date you’d end up with would usually be on a sunday, so the teams that’d play on a sunday would just not respond to a proposal or challenge. So if you don’t want to play on a sunday you’d have to put a lot of effort in getting your opponent to agree on a date that’s not the default date.

I’m glad that the default date is now usually just the date that’s proposed by one of the teams, so the team that has put some effort in scheduling the match is “rewarded”. Unfortunately there are teams who only put some effort in scheduling AFTER a default date is set :/
