Oh wait, nobody plays ladder.
:(
We’re having a couple of weeks off over the holiday season, but I’m sure I can arrange a challenge for you Spike after that, we can ‘get it on’, as it were.
Please stop kicking teams after 2/3 weeks though guys, if a team isn’t active for the moment it doesn’t mean they never want to be again, it’s killing the ladder before it can get going. Yes I know you can get back on, but the system is bugged for dropped teams and it’s a right pain in the ass.
Remove this dull ache by allowing a more realistic time inbetween matches and who knows, it might become more popular as more teams join and dont get kicked almost immeadiately. More teams join, more teams want to join, as the ladder dwindles away it is no incentive for anyone to bother, lets play the same 5 teams over and over and over….YAWN!
Allow 8 weeks, if a team recieves un-wanted challenges in that time, they can reject them, if they receive an interesting challenge after 4 weeks though, they can accept and the ladder will flourish….mebbe.
Worth a shot though surely, the ladder as it is, is a bit of a joke.
I’d love to play in the ladder with rej tryhard but there’s just not enough div3/2 teams in there for it to be justifiable. More div2 teams join?
Maybe set up something that makes it impossible for a 6/5 team to challenge 3 and above? When I played in it with snuke we just got people challenging us from wayyy lower divisions and it would just waste everybodys time. Maybe that’s why higher division teams don’t join?
The only way to revive the interest in 6v6 ladders is to add separate 6v6 ladder-only teams.

This is the problem incarnate. A high div team joins the ladder, finds a team to play against and plays…..but no other high team joins in the 2 weeks…so they dont get another match and are force dropped…..
Leave it for 8 weeks and another high team may just fancy a go after say 6, join and get a match. If the other team were kicked after only 2 weeks this would never have happened and so neither team stay in the ladder.
Please please please please please please please please please can we try an 8 week drop for a few months and see how it goes? Please?
A good idea would to make it so a team can only provide screenshots (to prove their skill) from Ladder games only, ladders are semi-official so it wont be some “LOL WE BEAT DIV2 MIX OFFCLASSING WERE DIV2”. Also I feel that the admin team needs to promote the ladder, at the moment its just there and everyone ignores it. Maybe use it to test out new maps instead of monday night madness’ where only 16 or so teams can play. I also feel that arranging ladder games should be made easier, they shouldnt have harsh rules about arrangements and minor warnings should only be given when the circumstances become too far.
Just a few thoughts I really hope the admins do something to make the ladder a more viable option to going on IRC and finding people who take ages to join a server + mix’s who are offclassing and messing around.
Yes Monkeh! Bring it on!
Also the “teams will have a hard time finding opponents” argument is, bluntly put, utter bullshit.
When you send a challenge to a team, one of either two things can happen:
1. They accept your challenge and you play against them
2. They don’t accept your challenge and you, here it comes, don’t play against them. Woohey big deal!! Moving on!
Btw, if you want to kick a team off a high position in the ladder, just go inactive for a few weeks while you have an unplayed game. You will lose lots of point during this time. Then after that you challenge said team, beat them, and they lose almost half their points!!
Maybe to make the ladder more intresting maybe tie it in with tf2lobby so you get some sweet stats and figures for people to look at and get intrested.
Also tf2lobby is an untapped resource for lower skilled teams who currently use the ladder and would be a step towards joining the proper etf2l league.
But a seprate 6 vs 6 ladder team and well as a 6 vs 6 team your currently in would rock, then I could drag the folks from my pub server who want to play a comp match every month or so for fun to the ladder.

A good idea, maybe offer highlander teams the chance to turn their 9v9 team into a 6v6 team and tell them about the ladder. The very point of the Highlander Challenge to to make comp tf2 grow. Offering to change it for them would take a lot of an admins time, but it is less daunting or a team to go through the process of getting everyone into one team again and signing up to the ladder.
Only one suggestion, please don’t drop teams from ladder too early. Lets take s8 for example, most teams will stop playing ladder during s8.
How about not dropping teams automatically from ladder at all, but having the ladder in seasons as well (that end right before a ‘regular’ season starts for example). Awards for winning a ladder season of course included.
Then instead of elo, have points inflate in the lower point ranges, so activity is rewarded, but have the inflation decrease the more points the team has, and then also have deflation in higher point ranges. Also bonus points for playing maps of the week (could for example be 1 standard, and 1 experimental/new map that needs testing), and change those every week.
