It seems they already shipped the update with the addon block for L4D2, so unless they are just taking their time, it looks like TF2 will be left alone.
Will email Robin and ask.
Plugins still work fine on L4D2, unfortunately.
hey
sometimes after a match i saw the record recorded, but when i want to watch i can’t find it… plugin is fucked or something is wrong with me ?
could you make prec auto bookmark airshots?
As there should be a cvar for it now, due to the direct hit? or maybe its only active for the DH i dont know?
I must admit I really like this plug-in, but I stopped using it ever since Valve or Robin said they would be blocking any add-ons.
My fear was that if a add-on was used they would consider it a VAC ban (if they some how managed to mess it up).
I know it was mentioned that if p-rec is to be used they would cater for it if they wanted too and not block it. Worry is if they somehow cock it up so that the VAC side picks it up and then bans me xD…
If anyone wants to shed some enlightenment on me and prove or have some concrete information that for sure this plugin now or in the future, will not cause VAC ban let me know ^_^.
Cheers

I don’t think VAC has ever been updated and if it has its been done really poorly as it blocks nothing and the people at VAC just put their heads in the sand and say that it is impossible to get around, (you can’t send them demos, videos, screenshots or anything of people cheating)
So tbh I don’t think they will actually do anything :p
I remember an incident where loads of people got VAC’d for having something running in the background but I can’t remember exactly what it was. They all got unbanned when Valve realized what had happened. Long story short, even if you were to get banned (along with however many thousand other people use POV-Rec) I doubt they would stick.
There is nothing to be afraid of :) Valve indeed are going to implement whitelist of clientside plugins and already contacted Orange. P-REC should be fine.

I’m quite sure that was a early version of xfire

It’s actually possible to get banned for using client side plugins. Client side plugins work exactly like cheats, they inject a 3rd party .dll file into the game. If a client side plugin was to modify something that some other cheat modify and VAC checks for, you’ll get a VAC banned.
The coder of a known CSS plugin got VAC banned this way while testing his plugin on a a listen server. The plugin he made was using was using some code which was also used in a few cheats (but it was a server side plugin). He then posted it on the hlcoders mailing list and got contacted by Valve who trusted him since he’s known and removed the ban. I doubt they would have removed the ban for anyone else.
If Orange do an update someday and modify something that VAC checks for, then everybody using it will surely get VAC banned.

Highly unlikely. Robin told Orange they’re going to block plugins and asked if he agrees to send binaries of new P-REC versions to Valve before public releases. I doubt they will ban for something they approved themselves.

Forgive my ignorance, but does “added support for SourceTV record (prec_recordstv 1)” mean that I can record an STV demo from my side (i.e. client side)?

It records the STV on the gameserver when rcon_password is set.
