Recently I deleted all my cfg files and went back to default so I could get broesel’s crosshair switcher. I kept a backup of my old files and put the autoexec back into the config folder but it no longer works (I have comanglia’s fps config in autoexec btw). When I type ‘exec autoexec’ into console it says unknown command.

Before anyone asks it definitely has .cfg and is in the correct folder. I have tried to verify game files twice.

Casino

Try “exec autoexec.cfg”

If it says unknown command I would’ve thought the syntax of what you’re typing is wrong rather than anything being wrong with the file itself. I could be wrong though.

Try “exec autoexec.cfg”

unknown command again

] exec autoexec.cfg
Unknown command “?”

Fuxx

I too have started having this problem even though I see no reason for it to be there.

] exec autoexec.cfg
Unknown command “?”

I don’t even have any weird characters and it refuses to execute any new commands I put into the file. I’ve tried creating another .cfg file and do for example “exec Fuxx” or “exec Fuxx.cfg” but the same Unknown command “?” appears.

It’s detecting the file, just refusing to do anything with it

Have you tried using the launch options -autoexec?

Didn’t work

The issue is not with the cfg file.

My guess is that the exec command has been aliased to do “?”, which does nothing and that’s why it appears as an unknown command.

So I’m not sure on how you can revert an alias to its original command, but I think adding -autoconfig (not -autoexec) to your launch options might revert it, just make sure you remove the -autoconfig after you started the game once.

I tried doing alias “exec” “?” and then alias “exec” “exec” and when I tried using the exec command it just crashed, I tested it with other commands and it also crashed

just delete your cfg and whole custom folder.
start+exit the game and then try it with your custom folder

Didn’t work and neither did any of the launch options

GUYS AFTER 2 DAYS I FUCKING DID IT

I copied my demoman.cfg and replaced the original with the graphics cfg and renamed that to autoexec.cfg. Then i renamed the demoman Copy.cfg to demoman.cfg and its all sorted. Thanks a lot for all the replies.
