Hud modification is not working

I recently downloaded the lucky star tf2 hud for tf2, which changes all the character portraits on the hud to adorable little anime characters. Following the installation directions, I placed the folder for the mod in tf/custom, so it looks like this:
tf/custom/lucky/materials/hud/.vtf
tf/custom/lucky/sound/sound.cache
When I launch the game, nothing changes. I hope someone out there knows what I’m doing wrong.

maybe sv_pure has something to do with it?
Try it on different servers
and make sure all of your files are inside the “custom” folder

Afaik .vtf files only go to /tf/custom/
Could be wrong tho, never used one myself

.vtf stands for Valve Texture Format. The one you’re probably thinking about is VPK (Valve Pak), which is just an archive with custom files following the same directory stucture.

On topic: Check if you don’t have any other custom files and like Netsky said try it with sv_pure -1 first.
