TF2 update: http://store.steampowered.com/news/12570/
Added convar hud_combattext_batching_window to be used with hud_combattext_batching
maximum delay between damage events in order to batch numbers
min 0.1, max 2.0, default 0.2
Anyone tried this one out yet? Whilst it looks very promising that you can adjust the time window the batching is active, I have no idea which value is the sweet spot.
Well, it sounds to me (edit : tested, and this is the case), you activate
hud_combattext_batching 1
or
hud_combattext_healing 1 (for medics)
and then you can set the time it resets per target with
hud_combattext_batching_window
hud_combattext_batching_window 0.1 = after 0.1 sec, stop stacking damage
hud_combattext_batching_window 2 = after 2 sec, stop stacking damage
Here is the reason they added this in game : http://www.reddit.com/r/truetf2/comments/14dcvu/hud_combattext_batching_1_an_upgrade_for_heavies/

Valve time seems to be still in effect
This is very good new Cvar, instead of saying: X took 40, 20, etc
you can say he took overall damage so that you don’t need to calculate overall damage you did, this is especially good for Scout/Soldier/Demo, but it’s good for all classes
And it also stacks with other weapons, so you can deal 100 damage with scattergun, and damage continues to stack if you hit someone with pistol or melee
This is very useful new Cvar, thanks TF2 Team

That was a Community request, so probably someone sent Tf2 team a message with this suggestion…

valve reads forums, reddit and such, so still… 1 year after the original request
i think the same was with damage numbers
How many years before they add transparent viewmodels ?

Valve doesn’t add cheats, you know that :+
Turned it on, and I can say it really is gamechanging.
There is no reason not to crank it all the way up to 2.0
As a Heavy and Pyro, this is insanely good, since you can still read the full damage dealt to a running Medic/Pyro/Soldier/Whatever.
No need to call ‘Medic very lit’ anymore too, you can easily tell, that Medic has 5 hp left or something, so your Heavy/Scout can start sniping.
Oh, and it resets when you hit other people, so there isn’t any number stacking, if that’s your concern.
0.01 below reload of the weapon you are using is my personal preference. melees don’t matter, here are the stats from the TF2 wiki YouTube demonstration videos.
for scout:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.75”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.24”
Soldier:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.79”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.99”
pyro:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 2.0”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.99”
demoman:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.23”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.07”
heavy:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 2.0”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.99”
engineer:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 0.99”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.35”
medic:
bind 1 “slot1; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.59”
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_healing 1”
sniper:
no need for primary
bind 2 “slot2; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.09”
spy:
bind 1 “slot 1; hud_combattext_batching_window 1.15”

I still think, for every class, 2 sec window is the best idea.

I main heavy, and it feels natural to have it at 2.
When playing scout I’m having a hard time adjusting. We’ll see…

Yup, just got a scrim. As main engineer, just got a scrim. With mini and pistol, it is awesome. Shotgun damage : confusing as hell. I saw the numbers 60-80 on a scout and I was like : whut he didn’t died ? Needed some time to understand the second attack only did 20 damage

yeah I disabled it for any not automatic weapon except for sticky bomb launcher.
It requires getting used to. I just started adding up stuff and it’s waaaaaaaaaay easier to have it all added up for you.
Same as with everything else: give it a few days.
