I had a lot of trouble finding out what to do because on Linux TF2 doesn’t find the folders so you can get your HUD and customized stuff.

Find the gameinfo.txt and simply add a line like this where similar lines are:
game+mod tf/custom/my_custom_stuff

Note: It should be created a folder inside CUSTOM folder where you will put your “resources” for example.
