calling openplugin cheating is like calling scripts cheating

they’re both available to all tf2 players, and even more interestingly, one is useless(besides picmip 6) if you have a high res monitor

I think valve is more concerned about the potential for cheating than openplugin(although it wouldn’t be a stretch to say they really dont like openplugin)

Aimbots are also available for all people who are able to use google.

They don’t like openplugin because it IS a cheat. I doubt a bunch of valve employees who happened to be mad at openplugin suddenly banned it. It has literally zero difference with a cheat – it bypasses vac to do something that the game normally doesn’t allow to do.

Fingers crossed that valve understand that the competitive community support higher fovs on the whole, and give us the settings to use without plugins in the future. Perhaps server side restrictions for different leagues could be the way to go?

IMO 130 FOV is a spy nerf, but coming from games like QL 90 FOV tf2 is like tunnel vision. Remember higher FOV isn’t just a straight up advantage, the extra vision at the sides comes at the price of players in the middle of the screen appearing further away and faster moving, meaning that aim is technically harder whilst keeping a player on your screen is easier. It’s swings and roundabouts.

I feel like allowing up to 110 should keep most spy mains happy, while obliging those that can’t stand the current 90 restriction.

I think that it’s about time that valve gave the community more say in what settings are allowed in comp, it’s and old game now, and it’s kept alive by and large by the community.

Am I the only one missing mapsonly option in cl_downloadfilter and ability to change ingame name? :(

No, you aren’t.

AFAIK there is still no need of -insecure on linux though, there is no plugin verification :)

HUD fonts are fixed now on linux yeah. The Question is will the VAC-team add OpenPlugins signature to the known cheats or did they just want to get rid of the -insecure bypass? I expected valve to fix the linux version loading all plugins first but ok.

Disabled plug-ins that would allow users to connect to secure game servers even when -insecure is specified on the command line
Continued use of such plug-ins will risk your Steam account getting VAC banned

They’ve broken the current version so it won’t re-enable secure mode after loading. If a new version of OpenPlugin gets released that works again, they’ll add the signature for that.

Are so many here still playing with a 4:3 monitor? You can’t really tell me you are getting sick from playing with a horizontal FOV of ~100 using a 16:9 or 16:10 resolution. If you do, move your head away from the monitor to a reasonable distance. I get that people would prefer maybe a horizontal FOV of 110. But those using a tolerated, but not allowed plugin to bump it up to 130 and then claiming they are not giving themselves an unfair advantage should really consider what they just said.

Then again, you don’t really need anything else than a vanilla TF2 installation and a custom resolution to get something like e.g. Ruskeydoo uses. http://i.imgur.com/PLl52.jpg

I still think it’s hilarious that people make a huge stink over this when in Quake as far as I remember it was always treated as a setting of personal preference much like sensitivity.

Had people suggested Quake FoV should be limited to a range from 75 to 90 they would’ve been laughed and sneered at.

OH MY DAYZZZ YOU SIMPEL SIMPEL MINDED PEOPLE..

For get the fov and shits, thats all irrelevant to the issue. It doesnt matter if only thing that plug-in would to was to bind your P-key to say “Hi”, but if you do it by some security bypass theck woodoo whatever, then its cheating and if the plugin does that then its a cheat.
As there are restrictions to some extent what you can actually do with script, if you would bypass these restrictions then it would be cheating..
Just use you’re brain some times wow..
