This was initially supposed to be a suggestion on how to make the VanillaTV spec GUI uber percentage more legible, but I figured this stuff might be of interest for other HUD makers as well.

I made a font (Screaming Squares) that enables me to represent geometric shapes as CExLabels for situations when a certain behaviour can’t be captured by an ImagePanel. For instance, this can be useful if you want a rectangular blinking low health warning of particular dimensions, color and opacity.

VanillaTV uber background using Screaming Squares:

yellow-tan opaque http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8660/vtvguiyellowtanopaque.png
yellow-black transparent http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/7353/vtvguiyellowblacktransp.png
green-black opaque http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/159/vtvguigreenblackopaque.png

Ell’s HUD V2 Beta Spec GUI In-Game(greyed out tiles and uber backgrounds use Screaming Squares):

I zipped up the font, example code and pictures here for anyone to use. http://code.google.com/p/ellshud/

Note: Square HUD uses an older version of Screaming Squares than Ell’s HUD, if you plan on grabbing it from one of my HUDs, go with the latter one.
