FPS drops only on TF2

My computer can easily run TF2 and has done with the same settings for ages. Randomly out of the blue Im dropping to about 30-40 fps when i was usually on 120 constantly. It gets worse as I go into crowded areas. All my other games run absolutely fine with not even a hint of a problem and all my temperatures are normal, nothing overheating.
Ive tried reinstalling fps config (chris DX9)
Latest graphics drivers (NVIDIA GTX 560)
Reinstalled TF2
Nothing has worked. Anyone any ideas?
there was something in some huds that made the fps drop.. I don’t know what it was or why it affected… so have you tried reinstalling hud ?

Not sure why it would work but I got a similar problem and I now get like 250-300 fps stable and it peaks much higher.
