oh … 120 hz monitor
my game still looks really nice though? ask hildreth, everything looks smooth and lovely!
but its not a beast pc at all
the 4850’s are 3 years old, and one of them was from ebay for £30 the ram cost me £30
the only expense really was the cpu and mobo and ssd (which tf2 does NOT run off)
so that is like i guess 260? is an i5 £200 i dont remember
anyway, there is no need to buy new greaphics cards to get sick performance, i may get some 5850’s off of ebay for my next upgrade… them pro new hardware fanboys seem to go through their top end graphics cards like no tomorrow, and being a generation or 2 behind doesn’t affect your fps if you are getting a top end card as opposed to a mid end new gen card.
best upgrade for an ageing pc is crossfire or sli off of ebay it will probably not cost you more than £40 and you will get a huge performance boost, especially if your old card was pretty decent. i got a 60-70 fps boost

buy another 5770 off ebay and overclock that i3 to 3.8 or 4ghz. they will do it easy with no voltage changes

Troll, i run a i3 530 with a hd5770 (full hd) and i have stable 120 with some rare drops on a quality boosted dx9 cfg. I dont see why you gotta use such a heavy cfg with such a beast pc.
this is why i dont understand the post that said i3 cant run tf2 with constant 120fps
when ive tested 2.2ghz i3 on laptop that can do constant 100fps on w7

My i3 is already overclocked, but i cant fit in another gfx card due to the size of my setup ;)
My specs are i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz (Stock cooler, it’s a realllyyy easy overclock).
4GB 1600mhz DDR3
Geforce GTX 460 (quite a rubbish card I think?)
120hz Samsung 2233rz
With this setup, 6v6 matches are easily 300fps without dropping, regardless of map.
Most 24ish player servers are also 300fps but it does occasionally drop to around 270 or 280.
I use an FPS config that’s kind of a rip of everyone elses. I wanted some AA turned on, and I wanted the game to look kind of sharp. Play in native res (1680 x 1050). If I used one of these standard FPS configs I’m sure my fps wouldn’t drop ever.
The motherboard, memory, processor cost about £300 ish, I think the gfx card is about £100-£150 nowadays (not sure as it was a present). It’s not too much of an expensive upgrade. With my old PC (Phenom 9850, 4gb 1066mhz memory, and geforce gtx 460), I capped fps at 200, and got that most of the time in a 6v6, though on some occasions it could drop down to about 100, and on maps like DM store I’d be playing with 80-120.
Things are a lot lot lot smoother, and it was definitely worth the buy!

That pc doesn’t do 300 fps all the time, end of. Also the boxed cooler for the 2500k had my cpu in the 90s with any oc, so I recommend you check your temps.
E: Unless it’s on xp, in which case it could do 300 in some maps atleast. Not sure how big the difference is with sandybridge between xp and w7.
Sure do love it when people claim “this is not possible”, if someone else’s personal experience says otherwise ))
Though he’s right, check dem temps.
Oh and a 460 is great, mid range card, it’s only “not great” if you have silly money to spend
Anyone got any ideas on how I can fix screen tearing?

My personal experience with a higher oc says it’s not possible )) unless ofcourse xp does give a big performance boost with SB cpu’s and he’s using it, both of which I doubt.
Mine usually doesn’t go below 80 fps at midfights, at high quality settings…
i7 930, HD4850, 6GB ram, 2 hdd’s in raid0
