Just buy this server and put some graphics cards in in it: http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/hg_2011_xxxl.xml

I tested my HDD already, seems just fine.
And any other game runs fine, so it does not make sense.

there MUST be something our pc’s have i n comman that makes tf2 run alot slower than on comparable machines
Uh…what are your exact specs? including HDD and everything.
Maybe we have something that runs in the background? seriously no clue.
Running in fullscreen gives me 20-30 more fps, try that? And if it’s something running in the background, just go onto msconfig.exe and uncheck everything on startup unless there’s something you need (which is usually nothing). Getting rid of ragdolls, gibs, and facial expressions increased my fps by another 20-30 at least (removing eyes alone increased it by about 10).
Just suggesting stuff that worked for me, not sure if it’ll give you the same results. You could probably test out settings by just lowering a certain thing and seeing how much difference it gives.
What would be the CPU (i7) frequency to aim for that would run TF2 smoothly at 120 Hz on every map, up to 24 players? (Assuming it is not bottlenecked by the GPU)
+ Chris’ highquality config.

5 ghz?
I have a i5 2500K and a hd 6850. I didnt manage to get a solid 120fps with normal settings on all the time. Still drops when playing custom maps. But since i use the good old fps config i have no problems anymore. I am running tf2 on a 120 fps hd monitor.

dont think its possible to do 120fps on custom map pubs
6v6 should be fine at 3ghz tho

He could just get arx’s setup. Apparently that does 270+ all the time, regardless of anything.
