For 120+ stable fps @ TF2 I recommend:
2 x GTX 590 on H2O
1 x i7 990X Extreme edition on H2O ( = faster then i7-2600K ).
2 x OCZ 512GB PCI-e SSD (OCZSSDPX-ZD2E88512G)
6 x OCZ VTX3MI-25SAT3-480G sata 600 SSD.
1 x SilverStone Strider Modular 1500W
1 x Asus Rampage 3 Extreme on H2O
6 x Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3-2133 CL9 XMP ( 24GB total ).
1 x Scythe Kaze Master Pro 5.25 fancontroller.
1 x Lian Li PC-X2000FB ( for computer hardware ).
1 x Lian Li PC-X500FX ( for most water cooling equipment ).
5 x Yate Loon 140mm Low Speed Fan ( for PC enclosure ).
4 x Yate Loon 140mm Medium Speed Fan ( for radiator ).
2 x Yate Loon 120mm Low Speed Fan ( for Lian Li PC-X500FX ).
2 x Danger Den-GTX590 cooling block. ( for VGA ).
1 x Danger Den MC-TDX cooling block. ( for CPU ).
1 x Danger Den RE3 Full Coverage Block ( for chipset ).
1 x Danger Den Monsoon D5 Premium – RED with Black Trim – Dual Bay Reservoir
1 x Eheim 1260 water pump.
1 x Danger Den Black Ice GTX560 – Xtreme radiator.
+ Enough tubing and fitting materials + some extra shit probably.
3 x ASUS VG236H 120Hz 3D.
1 x Sennheiser HD 800
1 x Singlepower ES-1 Headphone amplifier.
+ Hire Chris for pro installation and tweaking.
inb4 wont run tf2 at 120fps
Chris will make it happen.

After spending a couple grand on a computer,
Still runs it in DX 8 with all settings on low.
kk I get it.

A shit ton of parts
I sure do love me some overkill in the afternoon, tasty.
(yes I realise it was meant to be a joke )) )

pretty sure a 2600K would still be better as tf2 won’t make use of the extra cores, same reason why there’s no need to go for a dual cpu mobo (so you could have 2×6 cores :D). I would however get a phasechange cooling system instead of just H2O on that cpu.

Ok you win :) But an i7 990X looked cooler and I’m obligated to say I have little knowledge of phase change cooling. + the mobo looks superb and comes with uber cool geeky features like adjustable CPU PWM frequency, RC Bluetooth and Loadline Calibration which are just must haves for any TF2 player. And this mobo is single cpu btw :)

All highest.
i5 2500K @ 4.8Ghz
6950(6970) CF 20%
8GB Memory.I stopped caring why it does not go any higher.
there MUST be something our pc’s have i n comman that makes tf2 run alot slower than on comparable machines
cl_minfps 120
/thread
hdd maybe?

ofc it’s single cpu, I was simply remarking that the only reason to go for nehalem over sandy bridge is the additional cores that nehalem offers (and in that case the fastest option would be a dual cpu mobo that supports crossfire/sli). The only other advantage nehalem has is 32 pci-express lanes, versus 16 on p67/z68, which would be a big deal, if it wasn’t because we were discussing tf2. We all know how cpu heavy the source engine is, so getting 2 fast cores is more important than getting full capability from the quad gpu setup (which is largely wasted on tf2),
