CommFT Highlander Tournament #1

After months of deliberation and discussion, we are proud to announce the opening of registration for CommFT’s first ever Highlander tournament. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Highlander, it is a game mode that pits two teams of 9 players against one another. Unlike public games, though, Highlander limits both teams to one player per class. With support from the MFU community, we hope that this tournament will help Highlander achieve legitimacy amongst the wider TF2 community. North American matches will be casted by the crew over at eXtv while the crew over at TF2tv may cast the European matches.

Now, without further ado, let us discuss the details of the tournament. Below are the most important facts:

1. It is open to any team that is interested in playing. There are no skill restrictions or skill/experience-based divisions.
2. It is a double elimination tournament with one round of matches per week starting the week of Sunday, April 17th.
3. Any player who cannot find a team can post/interact in the Mercs thread on the CommFT HL section of the forums in order to find a team.
4. There will be two conferences: the North American conference and the European conference. Teams must play in one or the other, depending on their geographical location, and there will be champions of each conference. Due to high cross-ocean pings, we will not have the two conference champions play each other.
5. Players may only play for one team.
6. Teams can sign up in the sign-up thread until Saturday, April 16th 2011. Be sure to read the OP and include all of the relevant information if you are signing up.
7. Teams will play on servers provided by Apoplexy Industries and INX Gaming.
8. The rules of the tournament have been posted in an official thread on the forums.
9. Brackets will be released as soon as sign-ups close in April.
10. Maps have been released and are listed on the forums
11. Graham and Free will be the head admins for this tournament. Contact us or post in the questions thread if you have any questions.

We definitely want to cast the EU matches Graham don’t worry.

Only thing is you post this here with 5 days left to register, some teams it might not be enough to sign a team up, maybe you could extend it?

Expected more teams to sign up by now, I guess no medals means people don’t want to play.

Well no-one outside CommFT scene really knows about this tournament, though we’re seeing some teams looking to join and lot of the best HL teams like SNSD, Colony are playing.

nervousENERGY are looking at entering a team (known about it for a while) if we can get the numbers (during an etf2l season it’s harder to get commitment to none 6v6 events sadly)

We may extend registration but as of now, we have not.

As for medals and Valve involvement, we are trying to get in touch with Robin early this week.
