is it any good is my question though, pug.na is active and quality not just one of the other while everything in EU is either quality and inactive (pixel, pug2) or shit and active (lobby)

TF2 european pickups were most active before people really started mixing. Since then TF2 pickups have been hardly worthwhile to play in, the interest level of prem players (or thereabouts in skill) in maintaining the same level of activity as back then has all but completely dropped save for a few select players. For pickups to be successful there needs to be the right mix of interest in the pickup model of play, activity and skill.
The US pugs, as far as I’m aware, have the advantage of a number of things. There are actually invite level players that play there on a regular basis, and that draws in people that are dedicated and want to learn. I guess mixing is generally less popular there, or at least there are a greater number of people that don’t mix and prefer to play pugs to explain why more people will play them. I think there might also be that whole american ego thing going on where people that play pugs (and hence with invite players) probably think it makes them better than people that don’t.
Currently the Euro scene in terms of pickups is too segmented. The lower end is completely dominated by lobby, the upper is dominated by a lack of interest and I think pixel.pickup proved if anything that a small number of active and dedicated players from the middle just isn’t enough.
Pixel was fine, but it just had too many problems so people gave up on it and started mixing. The servers kept lagging, went down for days on end etc.

Most of the time its good, better than the eurolobbies atleast plus we already have over 5000 played games at #gather.fi.

about NA, they DON’T have mixes – ive talked to a lot of lower/mid level americans and, when i was playing in pug.na, the invite players, and every single one of them (when i explained what a mix is) said their nearest equivalent is pug na

There’s your answer then.
Think I’m going out in a bit so dunno if I can make the chat, but me and a few other guys who have played far too many lobbies spent a lot of time going over the problems with lobby and trying to come up with solutions a while ago, we where supposed to be going over it with flame or someone but insomnia was organising it and suddenly dissapeared. Anyways I’ll send you my notes when I find them if you want, obviously it’s not entirely the same thing but theres a lot of stuff that would be relevant
time to chat :D
