and one which i’d rather eat my toenails after having them torn out with a tong.
Also just to note, said pickup has not actually even had a bot in the channel for months. It hadn’t had a bot in the channel for more than 50 days when I set up #pixeltf2.open (which was bassically DOA for exactly the same reasons), and that channel hasn’t had a game in it for 41 days.
so to sum it up:
TF2 is dead.

Judging by the fact that this project is very similar to TF2Lobby, I think you should focus on improving the things that matter. Being able to play only with your fellow locals sounds a nice feature, I agree with that, but the main problem is having people to play with in the first place. And, after that, improving the balance. You should set your priorities properly.
You said that you’re working at the banning system. Really? Let’s assume that, hypothetical speaking, tomorrow you’re going to release a beta version to be tested. Is the banning system essential?
I think Alfa is right here. Those 20% that haven’t heard about IRC are probably happy with TF2Lobby as it is. So from this point of view there is no need for the MatchMaking system.
Dunc, I’d like to know what Nightbox has done for the community. I’m constantly reading that he has done so many things but, at this moment, I honestly can’t think of any of them. And yes, I’ve told him too not to advertise the project (and, as a matter of fact, this is not the only one) in it’s initial phases. He didn’t listen so he’s paying the price as you said. If he’s not capable of learning from his own mistakes then there’s nothing that I, you or anyone can do.
I honestly thought about helping him again. But then I read this
who asked your opinion ? you are the first banned player.
and made things easier for me. With this line you definitely showed us how mature you really are.
What else can I say? Good luck finding a proper coder / designer, but if you go on with this attitude then you’ll have a hard time coping with someone.

WHAT..

I was referring to Alfa’s post:
And as we are talking about ETF2L here, I can bet that more than 70%-80% of the players know how to use IRC and the pug system, so that’s why I said that people won’t bother switching from pug2 or pixel to another pug system. But if you are talking about the new players that come to ETF2L, or the 20% of players who don’t have a clue what IRC is, maybe it will help them.
about the irc stuff, ive already talked with skyride and cinq, both are intrested in API with tf2mm.
@ punct: i see that you don’t get, the banning system was “joke” but it wil be implemented, but not now since its not essential. About alfa, we both know what he has done, he deserves community punishment but i’m not going to def ban him, at first mistake i will take action.
People who are too lazy to get irc can have tf2lobby. If they want to do something more serious they will at one point have to install one.
Also, why have a region lockout if you can have a language lockout instead. So, say a German speaking person who currently resides in France will be blocked from playing with his German pals by a region lockout, but with a language lockout he’ll still be able to play and no racism needed.
Im surprised your so eager to ban, tf2 lobby banned you and you have 100% without fail derailed any thread they have created on etf2l forum.
Good to see you learning from past mistakes.
if it has any link with tf2lobby, im not going to ban anyone of them.
As i said before, there is no region LOCK, you simply can specify if you want a lobby for a specific country or region (west-europe) or whole europe

You do realise that not all people in a region speak a specific language, and that in other regions people might actually be able, but be blocked from playing in that language by your (optional) region lock?

Yes, you’ve put the problem pretty good, i will try to solve it.
Language filters are pretty useless. Then you’ll have most eastern ex-soviet countries playing with ruskies. Or trolls from france playing in germany(example)
Really complex shit that has to be thoroughly thought. Maybe implement both?

I’m thinking of region to be orientative.
Or maybe use the language filter, but have one of those crappy captcha-like things. I.e. have a question in the specified language which needs an answer in the same language. It can be bypassed easily with google translate or shit, but hell. I don’t think anyone’s gonna bother going through all that.
Then again, you should just implement a language filter as it is. If anyone complains about bad trolls, you can just add a security system later.
