Annnouncing the Highlander Experimental Cup #7

Date October 10, 2015

EXPCUP7_centered

As promised we’re going to playtest some maps before Highlander Season 9. This time we’ll use a few pro versions of highlander classics.

The cup will be held on Sunday, the 11th of October. Both fun teams and 9v9 teams may enter the tournament, you can sign up your team at the link below

>>>>>Sign up for the Highlander Experimental Cup #7 <<<<<

We will make brackets of 8 teams per skill group, so you’ll be able to prepare screenshots for Season 9, as well as having close games. So make sure you select the division you’re most likely going to try out for in Season 9 or you think your mix team is capable of handling.

Teams will be seeded first come first serve. Signing up late just before the deadline will not guarantee your team a seed if there aren’t 7 other teams to create a bracket.

The schedule and the maplist is as follows:

The whole tournament will be held as a Knock-Out without group stages. Please make sure you have downloaded the maps before the Ro8 to ensure that matches are played on time!

The rules will be the same as the ETF2L HL Season 8 rules. This means medigun pickups are not allowed. Other weapons can be picked up.

The whitelist that should be used is this one. You can also execute the whitelist by typing “rcon tftrue_whitelist_id etf2l_9v9_s9” if you have TFTRUE installed.

Prizes will be announced later on.

Signups close on Saturday, the 10th of October at 23:59 CEST!

Season 9 signups will open after the cup goes live.

Playing Gravelpit pro in the cup is an absolute waste of time. Firstly, gravelpit pro in its current state is worse than gravelpit stock. It makes pushing generally easier for blu, when the main gripe with gravelpit is that blu get it too easy already by getting one third of the control points for free.

Most teams are only starting to scrim this week or next, and playing the map which arguably requires most cohesion before most teams have that cohesion won’t help playtest the map at all. This is the same reason you don’t see gravelpit doublemixes, pugs and lobbies being played. If gravelpit pro is played you’ll see teams who have a higher potential of going far in the cup losing to teams which lack that potential, but have been playing for the past two weeks. Pointless playing gpit ‘pro’.

The main gripe with gravelpit is the uncontestable (for 2/3s of classes) height advantage that dominates both B and C, classes like pyro/engi/spy might as well not even be there. Edifice for its problems actually tries to correct this and is a way better map for it.

  12. Chronos: BMS said:

Both gravelpit(pro) and edifice are poorly conceived ideas for maps. I don’t see a pro version correcting this without fundamentally changing the way the map looks and is played. In which case, why not just choose a different map?

every map that forces you to either hold 2 points at once or give up one for free is bad. the maps are good, the game mode sucks.

remove the entire roof on B, remove half of the tower on C to fix gpit

Think about the bigger picture. Most gravelpit times for prem games are between 4 and 8 minutes. Compare this with steel which typically plays in around 1.30 and 8 minutes. I think that making B and C easier to push isn’t the way to improve the map. Who wants to play gravelpit where the average game time is about 3 or 4 minutes? For me, making A a viable option to hold, as well as B, would lead to longer and more interesting games.

How many mercs are allowed? Same as a regular season or more due to it being a ONC?

cp_gravelpit_x_b3 is worst than vanilla cp_gravelpit.
B push is now easier, point A is same.
Why do we even should play map with 3 points if 1 of the points won`t be defended at all?
If you want to make this map better and playable make real for RED team defend both point in same time (like on cp_steel) but don`t try to make pushes easier.
I agree with b33p, playing this map is waste of time.
