Announcing Experimental Highlander Cup #4!
March 14, 2013
Experimental Highlander Cup #4
Wrangled sentries are a key part of any A/D’s map defense, and overcoming them has been a challenge every Highlander team had to learn to deal with. Some believe it to be a true test of teamwork, others would like nothing more than see it banned from every League under the sun.
What if this staple element of Highlander gameplay was cut, just like that? Would it make A/D rounds a lot faster and more exciting? Would Engineers find new ways to utilize their Sentries on defense, or switch to Mini-sentries altogether? Would someone finally discover practical use for the Short Circuit and Rescue Ranger?
There’s only one way to find out.
Highlander Experimental Cup #4 features three A/D maps from Season 4 and one special rule – No Wrangler. The Cup will be held on one night – Wednesday, March 20th, and Highlander teams of all skill levels, including Fun teams, are invited to sign up. Teams will be grouped into brackets of similar skill where applicable, the number of brackets depends on the number of signups.
Signups will close at 18:30 CET on Cup Night, with brackets published at 19:30 CET.
The Cup Schedule, maps, rules and whitelist can be found on the Cup page.
Great stuff! :D
Once again, amazing work accless.
The banner is simple, yet awesome :)
Pyro even more of a engi buddy? Sounds good to me.
gg big sentries gunslinger tiem
Gotta agree with the above comments, that banner is amazing, Accless.
thats ma boy accless
no problem with the cup but in the general highlander seasons the wrangler should 100% be allowed imo, the engineer would become useless without it. Nice banner and cup.
Cube, we have our reasons to try this out. Believe me if we thought the engineer should be bound by their wrangler we would’ve never launched this.
I’m all for.
Oh i see kkaltuu, its because you play for colony and you know that me and my wrangler are what hold SNSD together… :D :D
great banner.
and, the idea of the cup aint too bad either but.. why during the actual season?
awesome banner. Let’s see how much this “no wrangling” sentries changes the game. Time for old school engineer spots!
“great banner.
.. why during the actual season?”
+1
i’d really like to sign up and partecipate, but i cant do it on a single night, my BEAUTIFOOL face will be ruined for a week cause of the lack of sleep of a night only.
No more wrangler airshots!
I agree with Cube, this is a ridiculous idea tbh. Engi without the wrangler, Soldier with DH = lolnosentry. Engi effectively taken out of the game.
I actually think no wrangler just promotes more teamplay, pyro can reflect a soldier spamming it, teammates can cover places where it can easily gets spammed. A well organised team will fare a lot better without the wrangler. I don’t see why this is a ridiculous idea, it’s an experiment after all.
“why during the actual season?”
We could not run it sooner for various reasons, and we have other plans for HL cups post-S4.
Even if it were run sooner, it would not have any influence on Season 4’s unlock rules. The Wrangler is “too big” to ban it based on one small cup alone.
The cup is also designed to wrap within 2 hours, which should make it more accessible to teams short on time, especially Russian teams (who won’t have to play until 1 am for once). Whether that’s too short or too long for a Highlander ONC is another thing we’re testing in this cup, and may determine the bracket size of future ONCs.
good banner
you should ban Direct hit if you want old school engineer
I was referring to the fact that, because it’s during week 1, there ain’t gonna be as many signups as there could be.
Also Perm, banning the wrangler has it’s valid reasons, but what you just said works 2 ways. Playing without wrangler does encourage more cooperation with the engineer, but also, taking down the wrangler in itself requires the team to cooperate a lot better.
And I agree with pala, the direct hit makes taking normal sentires down too easy. As well as the loch n load, to be fair.
90% of soldiers will run DH on offense, that’s pretty sure.
Not allowing the wrangler is effectively lowering the skill ceiling for engineers a lot. Now there’s just no fun playing engi in A/D : it’s like in 6s, you build a sentry, then wait for it to be desotryed gg no rep
