Announcing: Monday Night Madness
April 3, 2010
What is Monday Night Madness?
As we’re nearing the end of Season 7, there are a number of maps which I would like to see tested with a view to including them in some of our future competitions. At the moment I have half a dozen maps on a shortlist, which will fit into a number of one night cups on a Monday evening.
“Monday Night Madness” is the terrible name that I have come up with for these tournaments (sorry!) If these tournaments go well, I will look at continuing them in the future with a mixture of current and other new custom maps.
How will it work?
Similar to previous one night cups that we have run with ETF2L and Esports Heaven, the cup will be played in one evening. To start with it will be a 16 team competition, single-elimination. So your team will play between 1 and 4 games, depending on how far you progress.
The first round will be drawn randomly by one of the ETF2L IRC bots live in #etf2l. After this round each of the games will progress through the standard tournament structure, with one map to be played in every game, including the final.
When is the first cup and how do I sign-up?
The first tournament will take place on Monday 12th April, and will feature the map cp_prolane. I will open the signups on Monday 5th April @ 20CET, and teams will be able to sign-up as per usual through the ETF2L website. The first 16 teams to enter will get to take part in the cup.
Are there any prizes?
These tournaments are intended to be fun cups which will allow you to play new maps with your clan and also to help us test new maps and see if any are worth considering for our future competitions. There will be a feedback thread after each tournament and all constructive feedback will be very welcome. Depending on the success of the tournaments, it may be possible to think about some prizes in the future – we will see!
Questions?
If you have any questions, please feel free to add a comment on this thread or you can come and talk to me (D2M) in #etf2l.
Hopefully you guys are as excited as I am about the chance to play some new maps and help us to assess the quality of the new options that are open to us for our future competitions.

oh you
Good idea. Hopefully I can get my map in on this.
But why only 16 teams ? :(
great, more maps ..
“Looking forward to an extended map pool next season as a result of these cups!”
yeah why not make it 18 so you only have to play each map once a season
damn you d2m its on the day that i move!
Nice one, maybe we can have the chance to participate ! :D
awesome
“yeah why not make it 18 so you only have to play each map once a season”
I’d have no problem with playing a map once per season.
why monday? :(
Mondays are one of the quieter days of the week for ETF2L games at the moment, and it also brings something nice to brighten up the traditional depressing start to a new week in people’s lives.
With regards to the number of teams – it’s a one night cup. Adding extra teams means playing a lot earlier (mostly unfeasible). With matches starting at 20CET, there will one game every 45 minutes. So matches at 20:00 (1st round), 20:45 (QF), 21:30 (Semis), 22:15 (final). Adding in another round to make it 32 teams would mean a match at 23:00CET or having to start the tournament 30 minutes earlier with a last match at 22:30CET. Neither of these would give an ideal finish, with some teams probably not being able to complete the tournament.
So to start with, we’ll try 16 teams and then see how it goes from there :)
d2m u need to whip us tf2 bois into shape, start paying us tf2 players a wage and we’ll show up earlyier to play??
cool, look forward to my next bank statement
Looking forward to cp_well burning in hell next season.
How about removing Turbine from the ETF2L map pool?
Good to see a new cup, will try to sign up :)
Maptest Monday is better
isnt monday night madness something from wrestling? : P
Stop trying to replace well/turbine
Prolane would replace fastlane, (gorge)?
I also really don’t see why some of these less popular maps can’t be played once and have the second game replaced by whichever maps get added.
I can understand why the one night cup can’t have more than four rounds.
Perhaps you can organize multiple at the same time? Unlimited teams to sign up and divide them randomly into minicups of 16 teams, perhaps even sort them per division to have the closest possible games.
As I already mentioned, I intend to see what the interest is like from the community and make a decision based on that. I don’t want to have the illusion that it’s going to really popular and then find that people don’t want to sign up because they’re unavailable/busy masturbating to pictures of Gabrielle Cilmi.
If the demand is great enough, I have plenty of pre-planned expansion options :)
Did this happen or what. I never saw any sign ups or info about it
