Playoff System & Nations Cup Playoffs

Playoff system
After a bit of delay, you can now see the season 3 promotional system on the division tables. [link]
If you end up in a spot marked green, you’ll get instantly promoted to a higher division next season. But if you end up in a red spot, you’ll have to play one division lower next season.
A new feature we have introduced this season is end-of-season playoffs. If your team ends the season on a spot marked blue, it’ll have to play a playoff match at the end of the season. The winners of the playoff match will get a place in the higher division for next season, while the loser has to go to the lower division. For example, the numbers 7 and 8 of division 1 will play the numbers 2 of division 2. The winners of those matches get a spot in division 1 for next season, the loser will have to go to division 2.
Most people will only have to play 1 playoff match, but due to divisions being unequal in size, there are 2 exceptions.
- The 4 numbers 3 of division 3 will have a preliminary playoff, the 2 winners of that will continue into the real division 2/3 playoff.
- In division 4, only the 2 best numbers 3 can continue to the playoffs. THis will be the ones with the most points.
This playoff system is to ensure that only the strongest tams go up a division and not have teams that are stronger go a division down in favor of a weaker team.
Nations Cup Playoffs
The group phase of the ETF2L Nations Cup is drawing to a close. There are only a few matches left, but those cannot influence who ends 1st or 2nd. Therefore, the playoff phase is near. We will get the playoff tree up in a few days, when all group phase matches have been finalized.
However, we can announce the maps that will be played in the playoff phase:
- Quarter Finals: 1: cp_pro_granary, 2: ctf_turbine, 3: cp_badlands
- Semi Finals: 1: cp_gravelpit, 2: cp_badlands, 3: cp_well
- Finals: 1: cp_badlands, 2: cp_well, 3: ctf_turbine, 4: cp_pro_granary, 5: cp_gravelpit
As a last note, don’t forget that the Quarter and Semi finals will be played as best of 3, but our Nations Cup Final will be played as best of 5! However, the finals will end after 5 maps played at most. If need be, there will be a 3rd round on gravelpit to decide the winner.
thank you. i opened a topic about it. :D
nice idea about playoffs,like soccer
best of 5 :O
thats gonna take some time
Aww. I would’ve avoided direct promotion/relegation in season playoffs since it might not make the best divisions out, but gotta settle will that. Good job with still implementing some sort of playoff system and let it evolve to the best way in the forthcoming seasons. =)
Gonna be an awesome Nationscup final! :D
