Hey to any old chums! :)

Looking for some advice on size of PSU to run the system below please..

Motherboard: Intel DX58SO

Graphics card: PNY Geforce 9800 GT (512 mb)

Hard drives: Seagate barracuda XT 2tb, Intel 320 series 40gb ssd

Water cooler: Corsair Hydro H60

CD/DVD drive: Pioneer DVR – S19LBK

Will be getting an i7 960 processor. 12 gb of ram, three sticks of 4gb @ 1600Mhz

I’m asking for a friend that is building a system for producing music so will be using an external mixing unit for sound..

Thanks people!

iirc. there is no point in using 3 sticks of ram intime, two would work better.

(the motherboard states that no more than 1.6 v per stick should be used? And having three stick makes it run in triple channel mode, apparently a lot quicker this way)

That’s what he told me.. I don’t know if the above is correct or not?

Anyone have an idea about the PSU though? :)

I would say get a corsair TX-650 W v2 if u plan on doing upgrade on the graphics card part.
If you want just to keep with that same card, an cx 500 would do the trick.

Also you were right on the tri channel part. The x58 chipset uses triple channel so it’s supposed that you have 3 ram sticks (or 6).

I have a spare 730W modular hiper one that has been lying arround for a while if u want a good one cheep, was used for 6 month to 1 year. may still have warranty, but unsure. been sat in a box in my cupboard for a year or 2.

SLI-Ready
Four independent 12V rails
Omnigrid II system
eXtender cables
Mesh body construction allows immediate heat dissipation of components, thereby maximizing the life of the unit
Supports NVIDIA SLI & Quad-SLI
The industry’s first stainless steel PSU body. SATA, PCI-E, Molex with EZ-Grip, floppy, P8 & P4 connectors
Connectors are gold plated, preventing rust and bad connections
Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) (N/A for US model)
20 dB(A) under normal load
Disc Scanning protection, PS off time 2ms
Fully compatible with AMD 64 bit and Intel LGA processors
All PSUs come with a three-year return to base warranty

Would say about £40.
