So far all the reviews of G400 I’ve seen say that it’s pretty much the same mouse as MX518 but with native support for 1000Hz and higher DPI (optional OFC). So IMO there’s no reason not to buy it if it’s the same price.

logitech website puts the g400 at £40 or so, also seen it up for pre-order at tht price
edit: £34.99 http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/gaming/mice-keyboard-combos/devices/optical-gaming-mouse-g400 — overclockers.co.uk has it for pre-order @ £39.98

and mx518 is 23 quid.. so gg, twice as expensive :D was rather obvious it would cost much more
he can also get a mx518 for 23 and overclock the USB port :P
If you don’t mind the shoddy scrollwheel, then there’s not much reason to not go for an OS MLT 04-sensor equipped Microsoft mouse. Intellimouse optical/explorer 1.1a/3.0 or wheel mouse optical 1.1 … There are no obvious sensor deficiencies and the mice are dirt cheap.
edit: and if you do, don’t forget to OC the usb port on this one too
