I thought of more! :D

Y Tu Mamá También might not be the best to watch if you’re in public but I’d recommend it at least.
Streets of Fire is kind of shallow as far as plot goes but it’s stylish as fuck and the soundtrack is so good.

Besides that anything by Takeshi Kitano is interesting, probably my favorite director / actor.
My favorites are Hana-bi, Sonatine, Kikujiro and Outrage.
Also if you’ve never watched any of Kursawa’s movies now is as good as any :3 My favorites are Rashomon and Seven Samurai and it’s as good place as any to start with them and see if they’re to your liking.

If you’re in any way into anime (or if you aren’t: Have a go!) then binge-watch everything Studio Ghibli has put out (and start with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke if you’re a fan of more fantastical stories; From up on Poppy Hill and Grave of the Fireflies if you’re more into realistic ones – and lots of crying). Besides Ghibli you also got movies like Paprika, Memories (3 short movies in one), classics like Ghost in the Shell and Akira is never wrong either.

SDCK!

I didn’t really read the whole three pages of movie names, so forgive me if I’m going to repeat someone.

Naturally, Nolan’s Batman Trilogy, but I somehow assume you’ve already watched that if you’re fan of gritty. Move on to other Nolan movies if you have, you won’t regret it.

Any Tarantino movie. Jackie Brown is my personal favourite, but I am biased since I’m the biggest De Niro fan. Which brings us to:

Any De Niro movie before 2000’s. Seriously, even the comedies of his are great. Taxi Driver is brutal and a must-watch.

Twelve Monkeys. Watch Brazil as well if you like this, it’s a satire, not a thriller though, but by the same director.

Dark City. This one is probably the most underrated sci-fi thriller of all. Dark one as well, as the movie title suggests.

Any Coen Brothers movie. No Country for Old Men and Fargo go on top of the list.

Any David Lynch movie. Seriously, this guy knows how to get on your nerves with all the ambiguity. Blue Velvet is incredible, and exactly the combination of genre you’re looking for except no sci-fi.

Also, I’m most perfectly convinced this one wasn’t mentioned yet, because it isn’t really well-known, but Spoorloos (1988) is an astonishing mystery thriller with a great plot twist. It’s great, especially if you like constantly questioning yourself and making theories of what might have happened throughout the whole time the film is on and after it’s finished as well.

Also, it’s the only european movie I’ve listed which is a shame to be honest.

Thanks guys, keep ’em going. I’m bookmarking this topic, going to watch everything you guys suggested that I already didn’t.

And for the love of god stop recommending me Tarantino movies, is my nick name not a sign of me being a fan already? :D
