Does anyone use one / tried one?

I’ve been using one (on and off) for a couple of years now, they do the job well and I feel a lot better using it (rather than regular cigs).

Reason I made the post was 1) out of curiosity, 2) because I just bought my 3rd model and it’s pretty pimp. It’s a Tornado – Tank model, and it works a bit different from the regular ones in that it uses a tank system to drip the liquid onto the atomiser (sorry if this sounds alien to some people).

Does anyone use one of these? and if so, what model are you using? what do you think of it?

Tried this a few months ago. Gave up on it quickly. It’s just not the same as having a smoke.

@ Turbomonkey – I know right ;oo But I think that for me is a motivation to not smoke regular ciggerettes. Ecigs haven’t been out for long enough to do that kind of damage, so it must have been from 1) not brushing, 2) smoking normal cigs.

What Spike said is pretty correct. They aren’t quite the same as having a smoke. I think that’s partly because smoking has a nice ‘dirty’ feel to it, and this feels too clean.
Saying that, they do do what they say they do. They give you nicotine, they give you a smoke like feel and also a throat hit. They are the best nicotine substitution I have ever found.

You definately need some will power to make a complete cut over. But you don’t get stressed out about it… you just kind of… feel like having the regular taste once in a while. I went onto an old model for around 8 months without touching a regular ciggerette. The novelty of it really helps get you into it, and you start to feel pretty healthy after a while.

I would say the only real downside of them, is the hidden maintenence in using one. Basically an ecig is a battery, an atomiser, and a cartridge. I’ll describe the first one I bought (the super (mini)).

You had a battery, that screws onto the atomiser. On the other end of the atomiser, you plug a catridge in. Inside the catridge there is a peice of fabric, kind of like a wool. If you buy the prefilled catridges, you just pop it on. If you use your own liquid, you pour the liquid over this wool until the catridge is full, then plug the catridge in. You then press a button and breath/suck in, and the atomiser vapourises the liquid producing a thick cloud of water vapour which you then exhale.

You find yourself tweaking the atomiser quite often. Pressing the wool down and up. It loses flavour, or doesn’t produce enough smoke, has occasional small leaks etc… There was quite a lot of maintenence with it, but when it is going, it is really nice!

The next one i bought was a Titan 510 (i think). I’ve been using this one for a while, it was more expensive, but had much less issues than the cheaper super model. It still used the wool system, and I found i’d just carry around a bottle of liquid, and add a few drops every few times to get a better ‘hit’. I liked this model, but it still needed some maintenence.

The new one I’ve got, seems so far to be pretty hastle free. It took a while to get going, I had a bit of a foul taste coming through it but after a few hours it’s now working like a dream. The catridge has no wool, it’s just a big tank of liquid and you press onto the atomiser. It’s a bit fatter than the ones i bought before, it feels like i’m holding a metal cigar. But it looks quite nice, and produces nice smoke / flavour.

As for cost, they are pretty good. The tank one cost £60, for that you get 2 batteries, 2 atomisers, 1 charger, some catridges of different strengths and a little case to carry it in. I went halves with my brother (as we were just testing it out). This means we get 1 complete ecig each (you would probably want the full set to yourself if you don’t allready have one as you want a battery on charge, and you want a spare atomiser).

The cartridges are cheap, but with the tank system, it’s probably better to buy a bottle of liquid and some blank catridges (though you can use the same one over and over again). I bought a 30ml bottle for £16. Each tank catridge uses 1.2ml of liquid (i think), and so far I’ve just refilled the catridge for the first time (since last night).

Also, with an ecig, you find you just… sit there and smoke it. You take less drags, but you smoke it more constantly throughout the day.

The best part is, I’m sitting in my office now smoking it. I used it on the plane to America (conceeled under the blanket or in the toilets, just to prevent questioning) They don’t set off smoke alarms. I use it in bars / clubs but again, I tend to hide it from the bouncers / bar staff, as I can’t be bothered to go through explaining that it’s not smoke, it’s water vapour. Most of the time I’ll just say it’s an inhaler, and i’ll tell them it’s a light powder that is coming out. I don’t even mention it has nicotine in it.

There is pretty much no smell when using it. If you buy a potent flavour (My brother loves all the crazy ones like Chocolate gateu, Lychae etc..) it does smell, but it doesn’t smell of smoke so it’s not really a problem. The vapour dissapears quicker than smoke from a ciggerette and doesn’t hang around a room for ages. There are ways you can smoke it without anyone seeing anything come out of your mouth, so it’s good to have in places where you can’t smoke.

It is cheaper than smoking, once you’ve past the initial investment, and it’s a whole lot of fun to go stand outside in the smoking area of a bar. Had a lot of late night drunken conversations just by having it.

If you _REALLY_ like smoking, then it’s probably not for you. If you enjoy smoking but kind of want to quit, it’s a good step. It’s not going to help you quit as such, but it is going to change your habit into a more healthy one, and then of course you can tone the nicotine down by buying weaker catridges or even 0 nicotine ones. I plan on using this to quit eventually, or i’ll just keep smoking it forever. it’s still better than smoking regulars.
