Hi, been given the task by my dad to find him the best laptop for £400ish. He wants it for general use and to edit his photographs w/photoshop.

I’ve narrowed it down to these two, which would you get for photo editing? I’m guessing the i3 is the better proccessor but looses 1gb ram.

Thanks :>

i3

1gb less aint a problem when u have 3gb and can just go with 32bit windows that doesnt require as much ram as 64bit

even if it would be 2gb, you can allways buy extra ram if needed.. cant do it with cpu

i3 also will use less power – more time to shop

you do realise both those processors are the same family?
Same Socket, Same TDP, same thermal characteristics?

n/b

I haven’t tested either of those CPU’s myself to check power usage, but i3 is the better CPU from a performance POV (personally i’d never buy an acer ever again though, had several fail on me recently, but wouldn’t recommend anything else either)

shame you cant find a bigger screen for the price. most laptops will handle photo shop these days. But imo you should get the largest screen possible for the money.

any of the new pentiums dont have same level of on demand mhz switching thats on i3/i5… they use more energy when cpu is half used, speedstep isnt as good anymore :P

laptop screens are generally bad as well, especially if you want accurate colours for photo editing.
