Rock is way too broad of a definition to have this thread make any sense. I like lots of styles of rock, but when I think of ROCK in general, the last thing I want to hear is some cheesy anthem/arena overproduced slick shit. Even the harder/heavier subgenres of rock sound overproduced nowadays. I miss the grit in most contemporary rock.

If your going this route, the original definition of rock music is the same as pop music.
Americans called it rock, brits called it pop, somewhere in the 70s/80s the definition of rock music changed to the harder kind of pop music and pop remained the same.
