You certainly do not understand what you are talking about. Please consider rethinking the definition of ‘esports’, answering yourself what makes a game suitable for calling playing it ‘esports’, what concepts does the game design process revolve around when it comes to make the game suitable for ‘esports’, then, when you actually come to a reasonable conclusion, please reconsider both abandoning the idea or asking the devs directly yourself about the project. And for the love of God, if someone is pathetic here, it’s you, trying to be all high and righteous now – stop doing that.

I somehow doubt that when Counter-Strike or Quake were made their objective was to become huge competitive games. It’s just that some People saw the potential and(with a little support) made the best of what they had. I’m pretty sure that if the “Valve doesn’t love us” attitude was ditched, 6v6 TF2 could flourish. It’s going pretty well atm also. Just check out the prizes from various LANs and competitions. Sure it ain’t 1 million dollars per tournament, but it’s slowly getting there*

*may or may not get to 1 million dollars, per se.

Saying TF2 is not an game for Esport because it was originally made for pubbers is dumb. I find you trolls as pathetics as people saying “TF2 is dead”.

TF2 is primarily a pub game. Just look at the update history for the game.

Freshmeatt, you certainly know much better than me that TF2 6v6 isn’t balanced, has a small skill/teamplay roof, is not suitable for matches nor lans… But maybe are you right, this cartoon-designed game can only bring fun ? Are we playing 6v6 wich is only an ffa mode ? Maybe has this game a hudge part of random…

If these points were right, we wouldn’t allways see the same top teams winning the prizes.

Seriously I could anderstand your point of view only if you’d tell me that you DON’T want to play TF2 seriously. Because we can, as much as a lot of ridiculous sports.

You were talking about a TFPro. Why do this ? just go playing ffa and have some fun with your friends, that’s what was TF2 made for ! I tell you that without hate or anything !

Sorry for the “righteous” way of writting, maybe should I do like a lot of people are doing there –> make fun of someone, spam, troll… that’s funny but please tell me I’m more relevant here than the guy with his green lighter…

ups, if you are totally right then why doing competition on a mode is dumb ?

Totally right about what? About the obvious catering to pub players? It’s like you wanted to answer to someone else’s message, but typed in my nickname by mistake.

Just read the first two replies you’ve got, counters any argument you have (not that you’ve brought any valid-ones). A mod will accomplish nothing, and cut any possible inflow of new players into the competitive scene (and there was an inflow due to the highlander tournaments I think, which are crucial to this community if it wants to have a bright shiny future).

You’re asking for a promode without even knowing what modifications should be in it. People around you tell you that there is no need to develop one and it would be better if the changes that would consist of bugfixes were globally available. Hence me being irritated because you suddenly drop the topic, delve into this weird concept of declaring TF2 an esport and call people dumb and pathetic. Get a grip mate, have some respect for people – at least read their posts from the beginning to the end.

Consider an extreme, imagine TF2 becomes as popular amongst both players and potential organizations as, for example, Starcraft II. What do you get? Loads of teams, loads of LANs, loads of prize money. Cool! On the other hand, you get all the drama, all the technical difficulties regarding getting a chance to attend the said LANs, shitloads of people, who will never get to the top because they think pretending is better, as well as anything you could sum up with a single word – commercialism. That’s a no-no for me personally.

We’re playing a fine game, which has its ups and downs, and even though we love to say ‘TF2 is dead’, it’s still isn’t dead, it’s doing great and we keep coming back to playing it – there’s just something about it that makes it more valuable for us than other games. TF2 was never meant to be an esport though and I can bet money it never will. Prove me wrong though and I will make even more money following the mainstream.

Are you honestly saying it wouldn’t be better if tf2 was as big as sc2?

^^ that’s funny, I like it

T0m, I think you should go to the optometrist because if you read again my post, I’m talking about seeing and differecing people. The difference between red and blue is hudge, so is between red and green or blue and green. But the most important point here is in fact seeing people. And the fastest possible. Because there is no alien jungle theme in TF2 maps, light green is easily seen.

That’s not universally true. It has been estimated that 6-10% of all men have red-green color blindness. This is one of the signs used for testing color blindness at military drafts and the likes. http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Color8.jpg That is more or less a keel on badlands. It would be better to let people set the colour paramenters themselves, like in QL. (I’m not color blind myself, so if anyone is, it would be interesting to know how much of a problem this actually is)

Edit: Add to that the fact that the red and blue color scheme is used for orientation on symetrical maps.

I have a mild form of colour blindness apparently. As in, one of the walls in my office is dark grey, but everyone else says it’s brown. I can definitely tell the difference between red/blue/green though.
My uncle is completely colour blind, but he says it only bothers him when he has to pick out an orange marble out of a pile of red ones, for example. He can still see the difference between colours on, for example, a traffic light. He may not perceive the colours as anyone else would, but he can tell they are different.
Strange how this works.

Anyway, I do sometimes find it difficult to see players on certain maps, especially if it’s in a darker area and the player’s colour blends in well with the surroundings. Personally I wouldn’t at all mind having bright green opponents. Or more importantly, bright coloured team mates (über making your screen go blue doesn’t help in finding blue players around you..)

Test to see if you’re colourblind, check out the Ishihara plates here and see what you can see. Alternatively go here and watch a little video.

Colour blindness is massively variable in serverity and consequence, from the guy who struggles to see any difference between scarlet and luscious red all the way to the guy who’s almost blind and can only see in black and white.

Finally, something I know a bit about being discussed on these forums, wahoo :D

ell(link), I totally agree with you, a mode have to be customizable. I was just explaining why I would choose green models. If you are color-blind, you could choose white or yellow ones…

I’m partly colourblind, certain reds/greens and blues/purples. I’ve got colourblind mode on for whenever people get jarated but it still coats them and makes it impossible to tell their team colour. It’s annoying just not being able to see the colours as they are, if that makes sense
