objectively speaking: without _should_ always be better because of the clear view, except for melee. however it is all a matter of preference: I know a lot of people (me included) who play soli / scout with viewmodel off but demo with viewmodel on.
When i had a high sens i had the view model on, i found it helped me aim. Now i have a muxh lower sens i have it turned off.

BUT sometimes I failed very hard, like was trying to jump with shotgun.
Different crosshairs for different weapons.
viewmodels on cuz rockets dont land where ur crosshair is pointing they go where your gun is pointing so i dont see how u can aim without dem on???
on for solly, off for scout scattergun/pipes/heavy spin up
tried with them off for solly, dribble.

I 100% prefer viewmodels off with the original. But with the normal RL im undecided :D (off on crt so I get more vision, on on LCD).
off for rl, on for shotty + melee
on on nades, off on stickies, on on melee
off on scatter, on on pistol + melee
medic all on
broesel made great crosshair switcher much <3 for him

This.
Some people I play with shoot depending on how far away people are from the viewmodel, eg they aim both with the crosshair & the viewmodel. I find it comfortable to turn them on for mid-range deathmatching, off for close or long range. Personal preference really. One thing Ive never liked is viewmodels on for sniper and viewmodels off for melee, dont know how people can play like that.
Overall I just leave them off.

Viewmodel only for melee, go!
All a matter of personal preference though

Scattergun and shotgun i turn viewmodels off.
any other weapon i enable it.
Everything off except melee – helps me time the swings.
Also have toggle button that remembers the state for slot1-3, part of a script I wrote many moons ago.
Although, when I start as medic the viewmodel for the medigun is always enabled initially so I don’t mistakenly think I have uber when I have kritz :S
everytime on.
tf2 is a first person shooter , not a first weapon shooter
