I really don\'t get it, why people still think that instagibbing at close range is balanced in any form with a nearly-hitscan weapon, I tested it as well, it\'s quite easy to kill numerous targets. Please stop your cheap talk about your pretended preference what you\'re using later, you simply don\'t know it.

Of course it\'s the scouts that whine about instagib..., as if a 1.5-shot with the FAN (stun) by a scout with decent aim was any different.

So far the soldier was only used as bodyguard to the medic and as spamming help to the demo and scouts, due to the fact that the other classes are even more useless. The games were decided mostly by scouts or demos. And before any whining and flaming occurs, of course a top team needs top soldiers, but they just weren\'t as important or game-deciding as top scouts+demo.
This might change with the update, and of course the scouts + demos are pissed to give some of their advantage and importance.
For a long time everyone has whined about soldier being a skillless class to play due to huge splash radius, now that the RL was tweaked to a weapon that requires more skill but is also more punishing, as it has so far been in any other game (qwtf, tfc or etf anyone?) ppl whine it\'s overpowered when the soldier has aim because they actually get killed.

My opinion:
- the minicrits have to go or get tuned so they only count in a decent height, otherwise the TDH is great.
- Bugle is a no-go in competitive gameplay because a team to win the middle will just have too much of an advantage.
- Pickaxe is great.
- Gunboats are fine, they are basically useless in competitive area as they only reduce dmg from shots to the ground and not wallshot-dmg. And who cares that they are random drops when they are useless? I find it pretty useful to be able to identify teammates by their unique dropped headgear, in fact to me it\'s more useful than the gunboats that I found and won\'t use due to their uselessness.

Ok, now finally I am bothered to put down my 2 cents:

I know both gryzor and daykiller for about a decade each, and while me and gryzor had some major clashes, I don\'t doubt both will do what they consider best for the community/game.

I have witnessed myself how much time and work daykiller invested into the league when it was just been started, until he transferred first some, later most of the day-to-day work to deneusbeer.

The league has a lot more to offer than just 330 teams. It\'s got a great webpage (very good overview, simple to use, great scripting - even if I joke about poll calculation), a solid infrastructure, a good and partly active admin team - at least so far.
In contrast to what some div1/2 ppl here seem to be thinking, this league so far has not been about the top notch teams mainly, getting them sponsored stuff and boosting their egos. The majority of the teams and players is situated in divisions 4 to 6, and they would never see anything from the sponsorship and they don\'t really care about premier division or not.

To be honest there\'s nothing as of a competition to the ETF2L currently. The anyways bored-of-the-game top notch teams might decide to play EMS + LAN tournaments for money, but for none of the other teams there\'s a \"better\" league to play, be that ESL or anything.

I don\'t know what was agreed upon between Deltron and Daykiller, I don\'t know how the situation was when daykiller was taken into the boat. I know that ST8 has written the page code, but I also know that this league was tiny and in a bad shape when daykiller was starting here.
If there was something amiss, the way to regulate this in my opinion would be to make this clear internally, mostly between ST8, Deltron and Day. If Deltron was cheated for his money, he would sit at the most basical power leverage - turn the machine off, or at least threaten to do it. ST8 could refuse to do any more coding until situation resolved.

I haven\'t heard of any of this to happen, instead there\'s a huge discussion on forums of ppl who have no insight of what happens at all, where everyone is taking sides and destroying the community feeling that\'s the base for a good league.
Especially some disappointed high lvl gamers who feel their wishes for pro-gaming improvements ignored see the chance to bash the administration of the league, regardless of the damage they might cause to the league itself.

I for my part acknowledged Gryzors comment about things amiss, thought about it and said \"I can\'t judge what\'s true or not, cause I don\'t have any intimate knowledge of what\'s going on behind the scenes, but if there\'s something amiss, Daykiller would not be able to keep it up against the will of a majority of admins, the server-hoster and the page-coder for a prolonged period, so the discussion will probably be done internally and soon resolved\".

Way too long again...

I do get your point, ydor.

But its a game.. we dont get paid, no contracts.. its all about the fun! And if someone thinks playing with his current team is no more fun (for what so ever reasons), hes allowed to leave and join another team or found a new one.

-> your comparison with football lacks for so many reasons/facts

That\'s valid as long as you compare it only to professional football.

But let\'s take it to a german example, as we\'re both germans: There are so many amateur football players, that only play for fun. Still there are leagues and divisions. You start \"Kreisliga C\" with a new team, point. No matter whether the players in your team already played \"Bezirksliga\", \"Verbandsliga\" or \"2. Bundesliga\" before.

I agree we all play here for fun. But if you played for months with a team and then find out they are all dicks and you want to play with ppl you like more, why not search in existing teams for ppl you like? I have friends in quite a few good teams. Ok, I\'m in no way good enough anymore to play on top lvl, but a while ago when I was still main medic for eLD I could easily have found a new team to join, with nice ppl inside, if I had found eLD lacking. There\'s no reason at all to keep founding new teams to play exactly with the ppl you want to play with.

And at professional level there are contracts and payments. In TF2 there are no salaries (yet). But you earn money by prizes or sponsoring. In other games the top teams like dignitas or SK pay their professional players salaries.

What? And then rape for 2 years untill we can finally compete at the level we play at (when the game is prob dead)?

...

Btw I heard [eLD] is going to fold, any truth in that?

For the first point: If this was a real sportslike organization, there wouldn\'t be new teams founded easily by all top players, but players would sign up to teams at the level they want to play and are skilled for. Then teams wouldn\'t fold easily neither, cause their license and league spots would be needed. No more folding a team today to form a new team with half the old players 1 month later to complain about not getting a div 2 spot or demanding div 1 spot.

To the second point: where would you hear something like that. eLD has been around since 1997 and our TF2 squad is running since release in 2007, playing ETF2L since season 2. We have no intention whatsoever to fold. I\'d rather recruit a completely new team than fold our squad.

During summer we had a break to allow ppl go into vacation and hang out in the sun, do some drinking in beer gardens and stuff, you know, RL it\'s called. Now that ETF2L season is starting again, we started playing again.

About half our team going \"poof\" as you put it, in fact we lost one of our soldiers and one scout who had not been in main lineup for a while left as well. We have one more player injured right now, which is why we recruited 2 new players, where youngblood has been playing for eLD in the past already.
Considering we lost our demoman in week 2 of season 5 and had to replace our medic in midseason and still managed to stay in div 2, I don\'t think it unrealistic to perform reasonably this season.

Ok, here\'s my 2 cents:

WAY TO GO ADMINS!!!

Maybe if the so called top-players would stop folding their teams after 2 losses / losing 1 or 2 players in the team and form new teams they won\'t be stuck in div 3?

If it was me, I would give out licenses and new teams have to start in div 6. You can\'t form a new football team with english, spanish and german national players and demand to start in premier division and have manchester city removed for your team.

That\'s why no really good player would join a newly formed team in a real sports and that\'s why the so called eSports is far from any decent organization.

The teams in div 1 and 2 earned their spots by playing earlier seasons and either staying in div 2 or being promoted.

edit:
And before you say now: this is a game and no sports, then we don\'t need a league and you can just play pcws as you do 3 times per day anyways without any ranking.

Well, let me put it like this: There are several reasons why teams don\'t participate

1.) Costs. Prices are quite high for teams without sponsoring (which is probably most teams below div 1 and half the teams in div 1).
If you add entrance fee of 52.10 euro, accomodation of 2 x 18 euro per night if you\'re willing to sleep in a sleeping bag in the mass hut, or 2 x 29 euro for a real bed and last but most expensive the travel costs (average probably around 150-200 euro per person including those who have to travel large distance by car like southern or eastern germany or travel by plane like those who come from scandinavia or eastern/southern europe), this LAN would be producing the same amount of costs as a 1-week all inclusive holiday on last minute booking :)

2.) Timing. Why put the event in midsummer when ppl have holidays and are on vacation? Why not in springtime or autumn?

3.) I recite one of my teammates: \"I know at least a dozen things I\'d rather do on a beautiful summer day than spend a sunny day in a dark hall with 200 sweating nerds\"
Not just everyone is into LANs, and 2-3 of those per team is enough to prevent a team going to the event.

4.) Special cases: In my case, my son is scheduled to be born tomorrow, and furthermore 5th of july is my birthday, so I\'ll rather spend it partying with GF and friends/family.
