just wanted to let you know that a customers account got hijacked due to a very weak password like \"abc123\". The \"hacker\" used the customers ftp for illegal file sharing mainly during the night. FTP server crashed (and restarted automatically) due to the high load and I\'m pretty sure the game servers lagged due to the hight load, too. Problem should be fixed now.

The problem two days ago was very similar to a problem ~2 months ago where a lot of GSP\'s were affected. This time it was the same but not so many servers were affected.

All game servers are contacting valves master servers periodically and it seems that there was an issue or still is an issue with this. The server just starts to lag or even hang-up for a few seconds. There is not much I can do because I dont know which master servers are working fine or not.

All I can do is tell you that I hadn\'t changed a single bit and it works fine now as it did before. If you still have any problem just write a short mail to \"support@nice-servers.com\". I normally do not look into external forums, huhy just sent me the link.

Nice-Servers - Getting ddosed. Strange routing to NL servers, unstable GER servers.
Hi,

1) As far as I know hiperz and we (nice-servers.com) are the only GSPs who have implemented a working firewall to avoid some kinds of ddos attacks. This was done by a lot of work of Arie and me.

2) If you have a \"strange\" routing to our NL servers it would be nice to send use a tracerroute. On windows just paste the output of the command \"tracert ip-address\" or preferably use the application \"WinMTR\".

3) I just got the information some minutes ago that there were lags on our servers which looked \"unstable\" or \"ddosed\". In the past 4 weeks we didn\'t get a single support ticket complaining about unstable servers. We are always trying to offer good and stable servers but you\'ve to inform us if you\'re not satisfied with some services.

After a short review the cpu usage, system load and network bandwidth looks pretty normal and the lags are also mentioned on a lot other game servers so it looks like a typical Valve issue which is hopefully and normally fixed within a short time.

google page speeds analyizes mainly the sites code and no server performance / configuration. Also a low google page speed doesn\'t mean the site is slow. If the server and the users bandwitdth is fast enough everything is ok.

For ETF2L thats normally the case but optimizing the code / cms templates could save some bandwidth but it takes a lot of time. I\'ve done it here: http://pagespeed.googlelabs.com/#url=http_3A_2F_2Fwww.nice-servers.com&mobile=false
Any good server providers that has German servers?
no, nice-server are shit
We already spent several ours in fixing the lags but the problem was / is related to one of the latest Valve updates and does affect ALL game server providers and all Orangebox games. The unlucky thing was that nearly at the same time we changed a lot in our server backend so I first thought it was related to these changes. Valve is already informed about the problem and a huge discussion is on their mailing list.

and thx for the nice feedback from the others ;-)

- rage in general is not good, but sometimes also necessary as a \"wake up call\"
lol\'ed :D

- It was said before but it\'s very important that you as a medic have the overview. This can be done by good calls of your team mates and the SCOREBOARD. I normally look into the scoreboard every 5-10 seconds or so ;-)

- Dont push when you\'re 2 guys low, even with uber advantage
- Dont push with no scouts
- Tell who should cover the flanks on pushes (you can see in the scoreboard whos dead)
- Push straight forward when the enemy demoman is down

etc. etc. This and a lot more can be seen in the scoreboard. In my experience the medic is the only one who uses the scoreboard regulary so thats very important to do. Additionally force your mates to look into the scoreboard when they are dead and call everything like \"we are one low, 4 against 2, 2 against 4, puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush,\".
